Do you have trouble dating? I've tried to not date cops, but I'm thinking that might be my best bet. Seems most men get jealous when I go to work since it is such a male dominated field.
What does your husband / boyfriend do?

I'm still single because most men can't accept that I work with cops. Even guys that I don't date, but work with and want to date me, get jealous if I talk to other guys or if I do happen to get a date. Men can be a little ridiculous.
I'm thinking of dating from a different department. Maybe one of the big cities around me, who knows. Not in a big hurry about it... .
Dated a guy I worked with once, he wasn't an officer and always felt threatened. I will never get my money and honey from the same jar again! So if you do date a cop, make sure he doesn't work with you!

I am a female detective. My husband does get jealous at times of the many men I work with. I can understand it to a point since I do rely on these people for assistance, advice, support & to basically have my back. You do get really close with men. He deals with it. He is retired military police. I guess he knows how hectic things & how close you get to a partner. There is no easy answer. I dated cops before I married my husband. Single & married they are all dogs. The single ones are afraid to grow up & commit. The married ones like to have it all at any cost (wife, kids, mistress & all the big boy toys). They drink too much & work too much. It is not worth the heartache no matter how hot the $ex is!!!!

My DH and I worked as police together, but we were already married when we got involved in law enforcement. DH is still in and I am a SAHM/ work part-time vet clinic. (having a baby changes everything LOL ) We have been happily married for 17 years.

Really, I think it all boils down to trust. I think trust is the single most important factor in a relationship. Lots of people fall in "love", but if they don't trust each other, they destroy it. Jealousy can tear apart a good relationship.

I would highly recommend getting your bf (if you decide not to date cops) involved in a civilian ride-along program.... gives them a taste of what you really do.

It is not advisable to date someone within your department, just in the event that things go bad.
The Chief usually hates this kinda thing. You might want to check out other emergency personnel, like EMT's, firemen, and the ER gang, since they too work similar shifts.
