I have a separate folder for each of my pets with everything I get from the vet -- copies of their medical records basically. Anytime I travel with one of them, I just grab their folder and go. If you have something like this, take it with you. Of course you will at the least need their proof of rabies shots. If you have papers saying when their last other shots were, that'd be handy too. Ideally you won't need anything, but if your dog were to get sick and need a vet's care, having all that information would be helpful. If you don't have a copy, maybe just call your vet and ask for a print-out of your dog's records that you could take with you. Also, maybe write down your vet's number in case you needed to get in touch. These are all just precautions... have a fun trip with your dog! :)

Fortunately your dog doesn't need a pass port. LOL. It would be advisable to have the shot record and a clean bill of health from your vet. Also I would bring paperwork that would prove that the dog does belong to you like pictures. I worked at a local SPCA and they don't just give a dog back to you just because you say he/she was lost at a truck stop. I would also ask you to have your animal wear identifying tags. Better yet get them micro-chipped. Travel safely and have a lot of fun. Traveling across the country is so much fun. I have done this several times and you get to see so much that is missed by plane. It is also an excellent way of bonding with your pet.

Those answers are absolutely incorrect!!

You need proof of rabies and may even need a health certificate from your vet. State laws vary and fines can be hefty. I would also advise proof of spay/neuter as well.

I transport dogs all over the United States for my rescue and my parents travel with their dogs all the time. Actual incidents are few and far between, but there have been times where they have been checked.

There are no state borders that check dog details, but if you are camping or RVing, you may need to provide proof of rabies vaccination, less than 3 years old.
I don't know if Canada has any requirements, but I doubt that they require any but proof of vaccination.
Many of us show dogs in Canada, and the border is very open.

It sure wouldn't hurt to keep an ID tag on your dog, though. Dogs often get frightened and run when in a strange environment, and ID tags would help you get him back if that should happen.

NONE, but, an absolute must, put a tag on your animals collar with your cell phone number or a number allowing someone should they find your lost animal, to contact you.
I would suggest carrying a bill of sale if you have one.
And at least a hand full of copies of a very good recent picture of your animal.
Why? You would not believe how many people lose their animals while traveling. I cannot stress your taking these precautions strongly enough.

Cops may ask for proof of rabies vaccine. Ask your vet.
Be sure you have lots of identification on the dog, in case he gets away from you. Microchip and tags would be a good idea.

Nothing, make sure it has tags for rabies and a tag with a number on it in case something does happen in the car.

You need a rabies certificate that is within one year of the date on it.

Which country?

If USA, then you'd need your driver's license and dog license I would think.

Driver's license for sure, ask your vet about your dog.

depends on what country, but generally all you need is proof of a rabies vaccination.
