I've just looked at Mark 15:25 and John 19:14-16 and I'm having a little trouble understanding this.

I should clear things up a little:

Mark 15:25
And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

John 19:14-16
And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified.

One is in Roman time the other is Jewish time.. the Roman day started at midnight..the Jewish day (not calender; but day as in light) started at 6:00 am. Here are the verses in the ALT (analytical literal translation)

Mar 15:25 Now it was the third hour [i.e., 9:00 a.m.] when they crucified Him.

(Joh 19:14) Now it was [the] preparation [day] of the Passover, and [it was] about the sixth hour [i.e. 6:00 a.m. Roman time or 12:00 noon Jewish time]. And he says to the Jews, "Look! Your* king!"
Joh 19:15) But they cried out [or, shouted], "Take [Him] away! Take [Him] away! Crucify Him!" Pilate says to them, "Shall I crucify your* king?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king except Caesar."
(Joh 19:16) Therefore, he then handed Him over to them so that He should be crucified. And they took Jesus and led [Him] away.

He was crucified at 9 am in the first scripture

He was taken away to be (not yet crucified) tried at 6 am in the next scripture. The trial is greatly condensed there

I believe it was at noon. Though I cannot remember when I learned this, or where, if I recall correctly the sky went dark (like night) for three hours, from 12:00 noon til 3:00 p.m. Matthew 27: 45 & 46 Also Luke 23: 44 The first hour started at 6:00 am According to the sundial, there were four day "watches" and four night "watches" consisting of 3 hours apiece: the first day watch was 6:00 am - 9:00 am, the second day watch was 9:00 am til 12:00 noon, the third watch was 12:00 noon til 3:00 pm, the fourth day watch was 3:00 pm til 6:00 pm. Then the night watches started. You have heard the espression, "Not on MY watch!" This is based on the original "watches" or partitions of the days and nights in bible times. The sixth hour mentioned in scripture corresponds to our 12:00 noon, the ninth hour to our 3:00 pm. Mark 6:48 makes reference to the fourth watch of the night. (That would be between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM.)

Jesus was crucified on a Thursday about mid-day. What can be confusing is that even-though is was mid-day it became dark as night. But it was not night it was still Thursday afternoon. An Christ, was buried before passover which can come between the hours 4:PM and 7pm. So Christ had to be in his grave prior to those times. And he was in his grave for 3 days. Thursday to Friday is one day. Friday to Saturday is two days. And Saturday to Sunday is three days. And Jesus rose-up from the grave on Sunday. Now remember that the real sabbath was on a Saturday not on a Sunday which the Romans help create and confused the world so badly that they no longer worship on the true sabbath. Now some people say that Christ, was crucified a Wednesday but Wednesday to Sunday is 4 day not 3 And many religions do not believed that here are books missing from the bible thanks to Emperor Constantine who started removing pages chapters and books from the bible and many people say that he received a special dispensation form the World Church of God which is now named, The Catholic Church to do those things. The next question is why was it done, well do your research then you will find the truth of my words and why it was done.

Matthew Henry’s Commentary says:

“He was brought before Pilate about the sixth hour (John 19:14), according to the Roman way of reckoning, which John uses, with which ours at this day agrees, that is, at six o’clock in the morning; and then, at the third hour, according to the Jews way of reckoning (and what Mark uses), that is, about nine of the clock in the morning, or soon after, they nailed Him to the cross.”

Christ was on Thee cross for 6 hours. From 9:00am (3rd hour) until 3:00pm (9th hour)
The day in Christ day started at daylight 6:00 am our time (0 hour). and ended at 6:00pm our time (12th hour)
He was scourged and he carried his cross up Golgotha and nailed to the cross. So both scriptures are talking about the same span of 6 hours.
I hope this helps.
