Why are agnostics so afraid of books that challenge their faith?

Josh McDowell "Evidence that Demands a Verdict"; Lee Strobel "The Case for the Creator"; Michael Behe "Darwin's Black Box";
Fred Heeren "Show Me God; What the Message from Space is Telling Us about God"; William Dembski "Mere Creation" Dr. Henry Morris "The Genesis Flood"

Shall I continue?

Your question falls into the category of what is called the "straw man" form of argument. You put forth an incorrect premise as if it is an established fact and then seek to draw an unjustified conclusion from it.

I don't know what country you are from but here in the United States the only books that get banned are those that have to do with things like child pornography or books on how to engage in terrorism or things like that.

If you want to examine a Christian site that takes challenges to our faith head on then why don't you click on the Answers button from my site @ http://web.express56.com/~bromar/ ?

I took a look at the two links you provided and I saw some old examples of books that challenged the Christian faith as having been banned, I also saw on both sites that the Bible has been banned before. Do you have any current examples of books that challenge the Christian faith that have been banned?

Jesus taught, He never preached. I know I am splitting hairs. The ridicule they will receive at every turn. If they stumble they will be looked at with contempt by both sides of the fence. I have no problem sharing my faith of Jesus Christ with anyone because been a Christian a long time. I know that I am far from perfect because there was only one on this earth that was perfect, Jesus. They also know if they say a verse from the Bible wrong that someone is ready to pounce on this as a good sign that they are not a Christian. Pastors forget to tell their flock that there are sheep in wolves clothing and Satan knows the Word of God better than anyone on this earth. The reason they are so happy is because of a joy that is placed in their hearts by the Holy Spirit. They lose the fear of death. They know they will be able to see their Lord in person. All Born Again Christians are not meant to be preachers. Most that just give their lives to Christ are just babes in the Lord, they don't know enough about the Word of the Lord to teach another. Just like asking a new born baby about the true natures of the world. How would it know? It is described something like this in the Bible, when you are babes in the Word you need milk. That is the littler points of the Bible, but as you grow in the Lord so does your desire to learn more. You want a better understanding.

Faith is not just for the religious. Faith is also a loyalty to a person, an allegiance to someone or something. That could be your spouse, your child etc. So if someone was constantly challenging your faith on those issues, wouldn't you react the same way? I suspect you would. Then imagine that the person challenging your faith in your spouse or child, etc., proceeded to laugh at how stupid you were for having that faith.

See, people who are married actually believe they are going to remain married forever and that is called faith. Everyone has faith in some form or another, and so it's very inconsiderate to constantly belittle a persons faith, no matter where it lies.

Use your brain.

Afraid ????

Think about the young people or those who have not been taught the truth.

Would you want something that destroyed souls?

2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

There are baby Christians.
There are 80 year old baby Christians.
They have not got into the meat of God's Word.
All they have been fed is milk, salvation and baptism.

Man's wisdom is no comparison to God's.

If you would only study God's Word with a good teacher for about 2 years, then maybe you would then have some common sense.

It's one thing to challenge faith; it's another to trash it alltogether! These books are banned to help seperate us from the world and allow us greater depths of communion with God. God imparts us with spiritual wisdom and the free will to think things through. We coome off as "fearful" because we do not allow our faith to be challenged. Well, here's a challenge for you! The SCripture says that "faith without WORKS is dead." So, I'm challenging you to show me evidence that books like the Da Vinci Code have any foundation other that sheer coincidence, that Christianity has plagarized things from books and religions down through the years and that there is no truth to the Bible, especially the Book of Revelation!

This is one excellent question. It is because every religion is a dogma, and it is pretty hard to be a Christian, love and forgive, when the world around you makes less and less sense.
I was a Catholic, and have lost my religion over a book. I am working on getting it back, but it will never be the same.
And I did believe. Spent every Sunday in Church. It is just because: it is hard to be a good Christian, and if we could shake the burden of it, we will. Books that promote such thoughts are an absolute poison for the soul.

Christians (like all religions) ban books because they feel that the words contained within the book are some version of "satan's lies," or "false prophet," meant to lead the faithful away from their beliefs.

In essence, however, the cause of book banning is fear. And it's really sad that some cultures (including Christianity) have to be afraid of books.

Another answerer seemed to indicate (by mock asking) that no books have been banned by Christianity! I will counter with a short list here: (this is not complete by far!)

-The Age of Reason was banned in the UK because of its arguments for Deism and against Christianity.
-"Are you There God? It's Me, Margaret" was banned in some schools for being anti-Christian
-Brave New World was banned in Ireland, again for being anti-Christian
-Confessions (by Rousseau) was banned temporarily in the US
- Finally, this page (http://home.nvg.org/~aga/bulletin43.html ) lists a number of censored works.

It's not a question of faith, but rather a question of getting facts straight.
Too many times writers don't fully understand the "faith" that they are writing about. They assume too much, and and leave the rest to interpretation. This is why books are challenged. While the faithful still believe.

As a Christian, I avoid books that could shake my faith. I know that my faith is NOT strong and don't want to be lead astray by other belief systems. I would also rather read things that will tend to increase my faith and things that will help me to know more about God. There are also plenty of books that challenge my beliefs within the realm of Christian literature, things that make me think and grow. I judge all literature against the Bible because to the Christian it is the ultimate guide.
