Yes. Proper etiquette is to buy both at shower gift and a wedding gift.
The shower gift can be personal (for the bride only) or you can buy from the wedding registry. The wedding present is a gift for the couple - if you know them well, select something you know they can use or that they would like. Never be shy about buying from the Wedding registry though - there is a reason couples spend time registering for gifts...because they want them! Money is also usually a welcome wedding present.

For the bridal shower, you get a gift for the bride. For the wedding, you buy a gift for the couple. Yes, gifts for all occasions you are invited to!

Here's some wedding history:

A long time ago, girls didn't have showers. They were given a trousseau from their parents. These usually included things for the wedding bed like nightgowns, bed linens, etc. This was usually done during the engagement.

But some girls who were poor or orphans and didn't have trousseaus. Their friends felt bad for them so they would have a party and bestow a gift that the unfortunate girl could make a trousseau out of.

Wedding gifts are usually something for the home, mostly the kitchen as I observed from the last wedding I went to.

Get the bride a gift card at her favorite store/restaurant. That way she can buy whatever she needs and wants. You can buy her 2 seperate gift cards, one for the bridal shower and one for her wedding gift.

The shower and wedding are two separate events so two gifts are in order. No one expects you to bankrupt yourself for a gift. A really good inexpensive shower gift is a copy of The Joy Of Cooking. Get them something from their registry for the wedding.

Yes, but do not go overboard. Get a gift card or something you can afford off the registry.
