ive been looking on ebay at kicker comp subwoofers and im just wondering how they compare to say rockford fosgate 12'"s or sony explode. They look like they have some power behind them but they are only 300 watts max so im not sure, also ive noticed that there extremely cheap on ebay. Why is this, are they good or bad? im looking at 10", 12", and 15"

right now i have a 15" eclipse running of a 6300 watt power acoustics amp, a 10 farad cap and im wondering if i was to hook up a couple 12"s if it would sound alright. lemme know

Comps are complete trash. Guy above me is right, if you're going with kicker go with the Solo series, but they have no SQ (Sound Quality) they're all SPL. Also, don't mix 12"s and 15"s, maybe 15"s and 10"s for high and low bass, but you have to set it up, you can't just plug them up and they work like that.

Eclipse Titanium series is great, I'd go with them over Rockford or Kicker. Def. Sony, Sony blows.
So, IMO. If I had a kicker comp I'd probably step on it or sell it for 10$

By the way, I don't know WHY you'd run an Eclipse with 6300 watts, WAY too much. Not to mention I don't know of Power Acoustik making a 6300 watt amp. I could be wrong but my store sells P.A. and I've not seen a 6300 watt amp by them.

http://spkrbox1.spaces.msn.com/ for real "sound" advice.

Your system won't mean squat without a well designed box to put your subs in. Some manufacturers have recommendations as to dimensions of various types of boxes. It is best to find someone who builds boxes if you go with something other than a sealed box.

You should always match up RMS (Root Mean Square) watts of Subs and amp per channel as well as impedance's(resistances).

If your amp is rated at 4Ω don't subject it to 2Ω, it will fry.

Here is the formula for subs in parallel:

Z = 1 / (1/sub1 + 1/sub2 + 1/sub3 + ....)

For series, just add them up (sub1 + sub2 + ...).

You can mix and match these equations to get the right impedance required by your amp.

Example: 4 subs @ 4Ω each. If I connect two in parallel and the other two in parallel and tie the two pairs in series, I would have a total impedance(resistance) of 4Ω. So to the amp, it's just one sub.

You should use a capacitor as well.

Recommend for every 500 watts MAX you use a .5 Farad cap
Example: 1000 watts MAX - 1 Farad cap

Try http://www.soundomain.com/shop you can find some really good deals, and this site is manufacturer certified. VERY IMPORTANT WHEN SHOPPING ON-LINE!!!

You will also need what's called a "line level converter" if your stock head unit doesn't have RCA outputs or your amp doesn't have high-level inputs.

If you like I can send you some plans for reference. My plans are for a 4-th order band pass bass box that holds two 12's. Also included are java calculators you can use to figure parallel and series values given Ω values.
Just e-mail me sparky3489@yahoo.com

My system

Blaupunkt TSw1200 subs with a Sony Xplōd XM2200GTX.
My amp is 1200 watts, subs are 600 watts each, cap is 1.2 Farad

SPL is about 112 db

Total cost(so far) = $410

comps are decent nothing more either get square kickers or dont mess with them audiobahn makes good cheap speakers and great expensive ones I have 2 aw1206t's which are 12's change the 12 to 15 or 10 if you want dif size but my system before that had 3 12's in a sealed box and was loud as hell but it never at anypoint hurt my ears from spl when i hookd them up in a ported box i couldnt turn it up all the way i highly recomend audiobahn if you want to get a good comparison go to REALMOFEXCURSION.COMthey have every speaker you have heard of and more that you havnt being played in peoples cars its a good reference point if your looking to buy new speakers and dont mind the distortion alot of camera mics wont take that much bass that close too well

Low pass for sure if you have the option. Most (new) Kicker 10s will handle 600w RMS, so it really depends on the RMS output of your amp. If it's 1100x1 @ 4 ohm, you're definitely overpowering your sub.
