Religion is what you want it to be. Islam focuses on the death and doom, Christianity on the false hope. In the end you get to decide what religion is.

Religion is common belief among a group of people, Faith is a personal belief in something. Religion can be many things, and nothing all at once. For the believer (depending on the religion) hope, salvation, death and misery, or neither. The only ones who know what is after death are those who have had Near Death Experiences, and the dead. Now I believe there is something after this life, but that is my belief and hope. To me it can be abused by some, and misunderstood by many others.
Some Christians seem to focus on the doom and gloom aspects though. End of the world and the damnation of millions you know the routine. I mean no offense to anyone I am just making an observational comment.

It's not false hope for losers, but it may very well be a belief that is proven inaccurate. Whether or not religious beliefs prove true or not, the hope you refer to is as real as the person who believes it.
Think about it, hope is not a tangible entity- it is a state of mind. If someone embraces a hopeful religion, to them- the hope is as real as any other kind of hope.
This is the key to why religion is so popular, it maintains a level of hope that can be much more difficult to maintain as an atheist. As hope is essential for happiness- and most people strive to be happy, religion answers questions and calms the heart.
Personally, I consider myself an agnostic humanist, but understand the temptation of religion. I believe their hope is misguided, yet I envy those who are able to wholeheartedly believe in a greater being- as life can be a lot rougher otherwise.
I wouldn't call believers "losers" as religion works for them and they benefit from it (this would be a "win"). I'd say that religion is a source of calm in a world of infinite questions- but it's not for everyone.
I just hope that the theists out there remain open-minded enough to respect those of us who believe differently than they. In today's conservative climate, tolerance and acceptance of atheism has become an all too rare commodity.

Religion has become more of a "mystical and divine" explanation for a very scientific process. Our spirit- ghost- soul- lifeforce- that inhabits our physical bodies are a type of energy. The Law of Matter and Energy states that matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. From this we can deduce that our energies do not die upon death but are transformed. Into what?, you might ask. Who knows. But perhaps this may also be one way of explaining the other types of phenomena that human beings are supposedly subjected to upon death such as reincarnation, teleportation, astral transference, energy projection, etc. Perhaps the prospect of gonig to heaven makes all these other statements a blasphemy but gives religion a real "Divine" and "Magnficent" purpose, giving it's followers a "reward" of everlasting life.

Nope.
1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Not mine. I'm Pagan. The only doom and gloom you'll hear of is what you bring on yourself.

religion is praise, salvation and everlasting life. i guess it is how you look at it, i.e. glass half empty or half full. that would depend on what your plans are. i guess you could chose death, doom and gloom, but why?
