The KJV seems to say that God lies by proxy:

1 Kings 22:23
Now, therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.

2 Chronicles 18:22
Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets.

Jeremiah 4:10
Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people.

Jeremiah 20:7
O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived.

Ezekiel 14:9
And if a prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet.

2 Thessalonians 2:11
For this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.

God can do whatever He likes. He is God. It really does not matter what you or I think. It is His will that will be done in the end.

No. he's the comparable the day earlier to this, in the present day and day after today. To lie could be against His very being. No, God has no longer lied. Num 23:19-20 19 God isn't a guy, so he does not lie . he's not human, so he does not replace his suggestions. Has he ever spoken and did no longer act? Has he ever promised and not carried it with the aid of? 20 pay attention, I won a command to bless; God has blessed, and that i won't opposite it! a million Sam 15:29 29 And he who's the honour of Israel won't lie , nor will he replace his suggestions, for he's not human that he ought to alter his suggestions!" Titus a million:2-3 2 This actuality supplies them self belief that they have got eternal life, which God—who does not lie —promised them formerly the worldwide began. Heb 6:18 18 So God has given the two his promise and his oath. those 2 issues are unchangeable with the aid of fact it truly is impossible for God to lie. My heart and soul already belong to the Lord, as a result, i'm no longer able to wager it. even however, considering the fact that there are 4 distinctive Scriptures above (2 OT and a pair of NT) Are you waiting on your religious study? :o)

God cant lie because lying is a sin
ok with each verse i will try to clear this up for you

1 Kings 22:23
ok in this verse God is not lying but he used his power to make humans lie so he is not lying there

2 Chronicles 18:22
this is also God making humans lie not himself lying

Jeremiah 4:10
this one was a little more confusing but i think that this is because of the peoples sins that he is punishing them

Jeremiah 20:7
it says that it means persuaded rather than deceived(the little things at the bottom)

Ezekiel 14:9
in my version it says enticed in stead of deceived which means to attract by desire

2 Thessalonians 2:11
if you read around it it talks about the anti christ and that God is decieving the wicked who refused to love the truth and be saved

I hope these cleared up some doubts

Kings 22:23-This is a vision, a divine and dramatic picture of God's authority spelled out in real imagery. The picture also presents God in final authority over all things, good and evil.Even the evil spirits submit to His control. God alone is in ultimate control over all creatures, whereas in a pagan dualism there is an ultimate evil force controlling the realm of evil. The Bible often speaks of God hardening men's hearts or sending them strong delusions. However, it is the rebellious man who first hardens his heart and only those who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness are sent strong delusion. God is neither commanding nor commending lying spirits, Rather God is permitting and using lying to to accomplish His own sovereign purposes of judgment. There is a difference between God's permissive will and His perfect will.

I am willing to give a Pagan's point of view here, and yes I have read the Bible (not cover to cover mind you but I have read a good chunk of it). Over the centuries what we call the Bible was translated from Coptic (the commonly written language of Jesus' time), to Latin, and finally form Latin to English (and many others). The Hebrew of the Old Testament is not the normal Hebrew writing, and using that writing system a whole lot of words have more than one definition. On top of that, throughout the past two thousand years different people have added things to it, and have taken thing out of it. That's the truth (though many would say otherwise). I am not bashing Christianity, quite the opposite, I respect the Religion itself; however there are enough fanatics who think that it is the "One True Religion" to have written into the Bible what they wanted it to say, and/or alter what it dose to fit their own ideals.

Unfortunately many of these are taken out of context. Most people wouldn't know from your quote, for instance, that Jeremiah was the "weeping prophet" who lamented often in superlatives and was quite emotional. At the beginning he stated that he could not be God's prophet because of his age. Was that true? No. Similarly, jeremiah is only a man. Not everything he says is accurate, though it is an accurate reflection of the way he feels. As for other passages, notice it always involves man's responsibility for this too. And too, notice, that there is always a cause for this. usually, it is rebellion against God. This is the case in every passage you are quoting. :)

The god if the christian bible is not consistant. In other words in the old testament it says Gods words are perfect and eternal.God then laid down the laws in Leviticus. Then you have a complete 180 degree turn in the new testament where now magically these laws no longer exist. So much for perfect and eternal right?

the Lord God NEVER lies. He never deceives. he is a loving God. people allow themselves to be deceived by satan's wickedness. all of these quotes from the Bible were about wicked people or false prophets. you need to read a little bit more in depth.

No. You've got to understand that the Bible was written by many people and in some instances, they had to "transcribe" and "translate" the words from one book to another in order to "form the Bible" as we know it today. A lot of the meaning of the Bible is in the reader's interpretation of what is meant to get across to the reader from the writer. A lot of the "meaning" of words and ideas were lost in the translation of the sentences... but, all in all, GOD DOES NOT LIE NOR HAS HE EVER!!!!

Many of those verses are taken out of context. Also, understand that those don't neccessarily describe God, but people's perception of God. For example, Jeremiah felt called by God to proclaim God's word, but people wouldn't listen to him, so he's angry at God.
It's fine to be skeptical, but skeptics are just as able as literalists to misinterpret and take scripture literally.

I thought someone was going to answer this sensibly when I started to read starlights reponse, then her answer degenerated into drivel.

The bible is just a guide for humanity, just as other religions have similar guides. It should not be taken literally, but adapted to suit modern society. 2000 year old rules are not necessarily relevant in a modern society.

But I don't believe that god exists.
