I don't think it matters how much you spend on a ring as long as you really love her/him. Just pick the ring that you think they will like!

As much as the guy can reasonably afford. I don't know why some people start a marriage in debt because they want an outrageously expensive engagement ring.

It's two months salary, but if you're currently not working, then 2x0 is still zero, so you're set with nothing, so don't worry about it... :)

Are you planning to surprise propose, or does she know it's coming? If surprise, go with whatever you can afford. If not surprise, check with the lady first and see what she's looking for.... in term of shape and weight. If goes crazy on you and wants a two carat ring, dump her because she's not looking out for you.

Two months of your salary(gross). That is the tradition however it should really be based on the amount of love you have for her. Remember this is a life long investment and over the course of your life it's pennies a day.

As much as one can comfortably afford. It is not supposed to be an item of financial worth, but rather an item from the heart given with deep love.........

Buy an antique ring, if she is into that sort of thing, if you can not afford diamonds at todays price.
