First let Me state that when One gives with the right heart, Their deed has been done. If Someone then chooses to do wrong with the money, that is on the wrongdoer.
Church Members know that the tithe money will be going for the light bill, the electric bill, the water bill, paper goods, and products. The Pastor may receive a fee, if the Committee agrees to it. So yes the money goes for the overall care of the Church. But it also goes to the education of Young Men to become future Pastors. It also goes to Missionary work, and for bibles, and home study courses for People in other Countries, so that They can learn the word of God.
About to be revealed next right here exclusively, (again your words). So are You trying to state that You know where all the money, for all the collection plates go? Think Not.

Money that is collected at church, via offerings and tithing is, of course, used for the work of the church... ie the Pastor's Salary, Staff (do you think everyone should work for free? How would they pay their bills?), building mortgage payment, utilities, maintenance, etc. and special things that are needed, like instruments and repair, choir robes (if used), music, hymnals, etc.
If someone is in dire straits, there are many places for them to go to for assistance. The church gladly helps, when asked... and, of course, there are special offerings taken up for special needs... ie missions, etc.
Our pastor was approached by another pastor, locally, right after Hurricane Wilma plowed through South FL last year. The need was urgent and immediate... the steeple of the other church had been thrown into the church's roof. This was not covered by any insurance... so, our pastor asked if we, as a congregation, would help out. Of course, everyone gave what they felt led to give and the steelple (a $10,000+ repair) was taken care of. Because it was done quickly, the subsequent rains didn't ruin the interior of the church.
The offering plate is taken to a safe place, to be counted by the church treasurer and probably an assistant or two. Checks are tallied, cash is deposited and the church is then able to pay their bills for another week or two... hopefully. There is no "cushion" built in for low-attendance services, so it really is a matter of "trusting God".
Unfortunately, there are "crooked" people in every realm of society, including churches. It is unfortunate that, sometimes, money is mishandled, misdirected, mistreated... and not used for the purpose that the congregant gave it.
Sorry to ramble in this answer... just thought you'd like to know why what you "found out" really happens as it does. Bills have to be paid.

The truth about collection plate money goes as follows.
This is money given and tithe from members own pockets.
It goes for the cost of running the church. It goes to a building fund. It goes to Lottie Moon Christmas funds. It goes to the poor. It goes to people in the hospital in a gift or flowers etc. It goes to trips teens or children may want to be a part of. It goes into Revivals. It goes out to Missionaries. It goes towards Bible School in the summer.
It helps to provide food for the Hungary. It buy gifts for those in need at Christmas and Thanksgiving. It goes toward medications to assist those who can't currently buy theirs this time around. It pays for various programs the church may offer. Last but not least it pays the pastor his salary which he deserves. This is what really happens with the offerings put in an offering plate.

That is nothing. If you were to use the offering in the way the bible tells us too. The entire tithe would go to the ministers (paster, worship leader, ect.) and an offering would be taken up as well. that offering would tipically be larger then the tithes and be used for the expenses. Then alms would be given to the poor. The bible does not tell us that it is the churches job to help the poor. Most churches do it because nobody else will. In those times the stingy jew would give 60% of his/her income away. no wonder the jews are always rich.

How did you think churches paid their electricity bills, or the salaries of the staff and ministers? Yes, money that people give in church go to all the things you mentioned, but members can also mark their tithe, or donation, to go to a specific mission or cause. My husband was a minister for several years and I have worked in churches as well, the church will put the money where the parishioners wish it to go, and yes a portion of monies given that have not been directed to a certain cause get used in practical ways for the church.

And you're just finding this out now?
Actually I'm sure there are quite a few churches that do distribute money outside themselves to worthy causes. But I'm also sure that in most churches the majority of the collection does go for the church itself... maintenance, building, salaries, etc. That's how it's alway been.

The church building needs money for maintenance. The church staff need salaries to make a living. Still, a large portion goes to missions to help those that have given their life to the mission field and to support community outreach programs...etc.
Why would you assume all churches do the same exact thing? I'm heavily involved in my church and I can guarantee you the money given is spent wisely in a way that is pleasing to God.

Why is it that people think their pastors..etc should derive their living from the church??? Years ago (when my dad was a kid) there weren't any "full time" paid pastors unless you were Catholic or somesuch. Now it seems like all are; but, I know not all are. Some pastors still work for their living seperate from the church. These men, tend to give the most honest and biblical sermons.

ummm......no. 16% of my church's complete budget money of all we get in goes to mission work. that's a whole lot of money. the rest goes to pay the pastor, the assistant pastor and the other ppl employed by the church. It also goes to poor people and to pay for things like youth things for maybe kids who can't afford to go to church camp or something, the church can help with that. Maybe in your church it's different but unless you've been to every single church in the whole world (including the underground churches) I wouldn't make such a bold statement.
