What age did you comfortably have a drink infront of your mom.

We are having a cookout next weekend and I may want a Wine Cooler (nothing heavy).

You are legal for drinking, right? It's okay to have a drink with her, and show her you can be a responsible drinker by not getting drunk. So, have ONE drink only, or maybe two, but have the second one later.

I believe I was 19 and my dad offered me a drink. Of course, at that time, the drinking age in Iowa where we lived had been lowered to 19.

Does your mom drink? If she does, offer her a wine cooler of her own.

If she doesn't drink and/or doesn't approve of drinking, then you'd probably be better off abstaining during your cookout.

Finally, if you're uncomfortable having a drink either in front of or with your mom, perhaps you should ask yourself why. If you can't come up with a good answer, then ask her if she minds, and if she does, then you don't.

If you have to ask than I suggest you talk it over with your mom. It's not something you absolutely have to have, If it is than you probably shouldn't anyway. I drink but my mom has issues with drinking so even though I am 40 something lol. I don't drink in front of her. I love her and respect her and a drink is just a drink a mom is forever.

Legally, you're allowed to and she can't say a thing. I'm one of many people I know that drank before they were legal with their parents. If she has a problem with it, discuss it with her - you're both rational adults, after all. She may surprise you and not have a problem at all. I know that we thought my grandparents would have a problem if we drank in front of them at my graduation but it turned out to be the absolute opposite - it was my aunt and uncle who had the problem with it (they're very religious).

Enjoy your cookout.

I am 33 and still feel uncomfortable drinking in front of my mom. If you are 21 go ahead and have one. Or you do the polite thing and ask her if it is ok. She will let you know if it is not.

As long as she's comfortable with it go for it... My brother was a bartender so he used to make drinks at home and have my mom and me try them when I was 15, then again I was sipping not drinking

The VERY occasional glass of wine or wine cooler shouldn't do any injury whilst pregnant - my Dr. had me on 3 glasses of purple wine each week via intense anemia problems - this appeared to treatment what ailed me yet i became additionally monitored with bi-weekly NSTs at the same time as eating the wine

Ok are you going to have a little drink or are you going to get drunk is the question. If your mom drinks a little then its ok to have a little drink. But under no excuses is it ok for you to get drunk in front of your mom at that age.

As long as it does not offend her or her guests, it should be fine. If there is any doubt, ask her before going or before you break the drink out when there. The main thing is you are a guest as well at her party so abide by her desires and you should be fine.
