Yes but it depends on where you live. You can contact me at lighthouse_halo@yahoo.com and I will help you find one in your area. The email you sent wouldn't let me send it

Some areas have community mental health centers for no or little compensation. Sometimes a local college will provide supervised counseling of the graduate students. These will not be psychiatrists, however.

You can check your phone book to see if there is a referral center for doctors of all specialities in your area. They won't say which one is better, but will provide names. Be aware many doctors are not taking new patients so you may have to keep calling.

When you find one, make an initial interview to discuss your problem and see how receptive the psychiatrist is to helping you and how willing you are to work with him--you know therapy is a painful subject so why make it worse if you don't like the doctor. You'll want to feel comfortable with him, sense you'll be able to develop a mutual trust with each other (very important), and feel compatible with what techniques he may want to employ.

Unlike Mr. Nerdlinger's contention, not all psychiatrists are Jewish. Unless you are overtly anti-Semitic you're not likely to be there to discuss politics--unless you work in Washington, D.C.! What does it matter what religion he is--he's not going to ask you what religion you practice and if it comes up in the therapeutic conversation he's not likely to ban you from his office because your views may differ.

Most shrinks are Jews, so before visitting them make sure you do not have overtly pro-Palestinian views of Israel, or deny the Holocaust.

You can usually go to your Health Department for counseling if you don't have insurance that covers Mental Health issues. If your insurance does cover it, they will have a list of suggested sites.
