All great advice above - also, be prepared to be getting up a lot during the night at first because puppies don't have large enough bladders or strong enough muscles down there to hold their pee all night yet. Be patient, have fun, and good luck.

How about a bag of hot water like those used for people with the flu? If you put one of those and cover it with blankets the puppy will be reminded of it's mothers warmth and shoul be able to sleep.

puppies thrive on contact...be it siblings, mom or you. try a fuzzy toy that looked like mom, or a blanket, also a warm water bottle wrapped in a blanket or towel.
sometimes when all else fails, you gotta cuddle with the puppy. after all, getting a pup is like having a baby......you'll be up for a few nights.

I don't know if the old ways still work, but find an old chew toy it can gnaw on while in its pen, or perhaps an old wind-up alarm clock. Maybe you could keep the pen in your bedroom or a child's bedroom so the puppy hears breathing or other sounds and knows it's not alone.
Good luck with your new little buddy.

sometimes they dont until they get used to their new home. This is onyl normal. Give them a little bed & blanket, maybe a stuffed animal, preferrably in a room with someone, they dont like to be alone, if all else fails, let them sleep with you, and you wont hear a peep out of them for most of the night!

Two ways... either take it to bed with you (but be warned you may never get him out of the habit!), or tuck him up with a jumper of yours (preferably one that has been worn but not washed so he has your scent on it) in his bed with a clock nearby so that the ticking will remind him of the sound of his mothers heartbeat.
Good luck and enjoy your new friend.

put it in a large enough cardboard box ( no lid !) for it to be comfortable lined with a nice soft blanket and a soft toy then place a wind up clock in with the dog , the ticking helps to sooth the dog to sleep.
