While I'm not sure what state you are in it is possible for you to be charged with carrying a concealed weapon in your car in California. (where I am from).

In California if I we're to take a gun to a gun shop I must have it in plain view, unloaded and be on the way to a gun shop. Otherwise it could well be considered a concealed weapon in the car.

It depends on where it was in the car - if it was hidden there is a good chance you will face charges. If it was in plain view you could argue you we're moving it from home to the office, from home to a gun shop or that you we're intending to go shooting that night?

By the way - how did they find it? They had to have cause to search unless you gave them consent?

It depends on if it was actually concealed. What the officer has to prove is, 1) if you have knowledge of the weapon, 2) were you making an attempt to conceal the weapon.

Are you a convicted felon?

In GA a vehicle is an ''EXTENSION" of the home and you permitted to possess a weapons in your home and since a vehicle is an extension of such then you can carry, BUT, there is a fine line there. If the weapon is concealed, problem! The weapon must be declared before the officer began the search. The location the vehicles was found when the officer stopped the vehicle....etc.

You should read your states laws on concealed weapon permits.

Mickdotcom is correct. Louisiana regards personal automobiles as an extension of the home, thus allowing loaded weapons to be carried. You may also carry concealed in LA, and TX with a permit, and no felonies. You need to check your state laws regarding weapon laws, as they vary from state to state.

In a lot of cases, yes. Check your local laws to make sure. There are specific laws regarding the transportation of firearms.
Without knowing more specifics it is difficult to answer this question accurately.
You're talking in the past tense. "..gun was.." "...I was.." Did this actually happen to you? Were you charged with carrying a concealed weapon? If you answered yes to those two questions than the answer to YOUR question is: Yes.

Depends on the state, some states don't allow any possession of a firearm, others require one in a car to be in a locked case out of reach of the driver.

www.packing.org will tell you most of the carry laws of various states.

For example in Illinois yes they can charge you with that

in some states you are allowed "peaceful journey" to have your weapon in the car.

"They?" Well, since that could be most anyone, I'm gonna say "they" can do pretty much anything. Check your state law. It's easy and lots of fun. Most likely, you'll find you are in violation if you have a gun in your car unless you have a CCW or are transporting it to/from the shop, range, hunting grounds, etc.
If you live in one of the vast majority of these United States and aren't a felon, it's a slam-dunk to get the CCW license

This depends on what State you live in. Some States have laws pertaining to this. In Mississippi you can have the weapon in your vehicle,it is an extension of your home. Check with your Police or Sheriff Department.

I've heard that if the gun is unloaded, in the glove department, and is legally registered then you can carry it in the car. The specifications are strict i think...so if it wasn't in the glove department you might be in trouble.

Yes if it was in the car, and was accessible. ie if it was in the glove box and the glove box has a lock that was locked they can not, but if the glove box wasn't locked then they can. If it was under the back seat they could still charge you since it would be accessible. Bottom line if it's in the car and accessible while driving you'll be charged.
