My uncle is an atheist & I have never heard any abusive or insulting words about faiths from him. Amazingly, he knows more about different faiths than I do and respects one's choice whether to believe in God or not. Yes, it is possible to debate without insults, as I learnt from him. I agree with 'Mathematician' that the believers (including me) also should not take any point explained by an athiest as insult.

Possibly. But they will probably ask that you learn a bit about the origins of your own religion as well as the fact that science has uncovered. In turn, they will should be willing to read your literature and listen to your arguements.

Of course, the corresponding question is whether it is possible for the religious to hear criticisms of their fath without feeling insulted.

i think that constructive debate and conversation can be had in any venue or topic. the only sticking point as i see it, is that our society has such a high level of intolerance, ignorance, and selfish pride that will not allow us to intellectually come close enough to understand other viewpoints.
