Don't they know that protesting only creates controversy and controversy makes more people want to see the movie? The protests backfired, all they did was have more people see the movie and put millions more into Dan Brown's pocket. Will they ever learn?

I totally agree with you. They don't want people to see the movie, so they go on the news and say don't go see it....but then people see it!! I digress - they are afraid that if people form their own opinions and see that what they have been taught from a young age might not be true. If the church has nothing to worry about, why are they so pissed off? Why can't they understand that this book (and then movie) are labeled as fiction?

Churches protest the Da Vinchi Code not because they think they can keep you from seeing the movie, but because there are things within the movie represented as fact that are actually fiction.

I think the story is Boring... and that Hudson Hawk was much better and more fun. I can personally accept that people make things up for stories that are based on history but aren't really true. The problem for religious people is that thier history is very important to them... it'd be like if I wrote a story about how your dad is gay. You know he isn't and it would make you mad.... why would you get mad? I never said it was true it's just a story I made up.
The funny thing is you are absolutely right... if you got upset over it then people would be more likely to repeat it. *laughs* that's a lesson to be learned, I think. =)

controversy is good. the controversy will make the people think for once. the Da Vinci Code is a good conversation starter though. but think about it this way, if you see something wrong, you, if you dont protest it, are agreeing with it through silence. with all the false assertions that the Da Vinci Code makes, even someone who doesnt believe in God would be extremely foolish to believe in that.

Many CHristian communities, yet no longer all, protest this action picture with the aid of fact it claims that their savior replace right into a undeniable mortal guy. He replace into no longer supernatural, in user-friendly terms a guy with a message. It additionally claims that Jesus replace into married and had a daughter. It additionally asserts that the early church lined up and destroyed many early Christian records that made point out of Femaile Divinity. the reason being that they needed to take the Pagan appropriate of intercourse being divine out of religious theory. It made people much less confusing to regulate. For those motives, Witches have been seen the enemies. The represented loose thinking. NEither the Catholic Church or its political opposite numbers needed that. SO books like the Witches Hammer have been issued. And henceforth consisting of on the instant. You have to think about what the purpose of the protest was. Was the purpose of the protest to prevent / dissuade people from watching the movie? I don't think so. I think that some elements of the church protested the movie because they felt that the movie presented information about Jesus that they felt ran counter to the truth and to official church doctrine.

They protested because they wanted casual Christians and non-Christians alike, who aren't knowledgeable about the fine details of doctrine, to be aware that the movie did not, in their view, accurately portray Jesus as they know him. Not protesting would have meant allowing a novelist and the movie industry to mold and shape people's notions of who Christ was and what his life and death means for Christians today. I'd say their protest was somewhat effective.

Because ( in my opinion ) the churches are so afraid that ppl will question their religion. Churches don't want ppl to EVER question religion even when it's just a story. Heaven forbid ppl think for themselves!

Terri&Stormy: How can Dan Brown be wrong? It's a work of fiction! Fiction can't be right or wrong. You ppl need help!

Of course they'll never learn. The Catholic Church is run by a lot of elderly single men; these guys are clueless about what happens when you tell a child "don't do that because I say so." LOL.
