Actually I think it's a bit of both and none of either. You are responsible for your cat but your cat sees you somewhat differently. Sometimes a cat will see you as a mother figure and sometimes a cat will see you as a fellow creature but I doubt if the cat sees you as property unless it sprays you.

From the cat's perspective, no one owns it. It simply prefers easy food and a nice place to stay. As soon as that changes, the cat will be off. If it matters to you that the cat stays, you will do what you need to do to keep it, If that means it owns you, then I guess it does, but to the cat, ownership of a human is not a responsibility it accepts.

dogs have owners ...... cats have staff
hahahahaha
I would think in a good relationship ... it would be a little bit of both ...
but generally speaking ... your cat owns you ...
except when someone is responsible for the cat food bill :o)

I think all cats own their "people". We like to think they're our pets, but the reality of it is that they grace us with their existence on THEIR terms in THEIR households and we are expected to hold up our end of the bargain by opening up the cans. Truth is, if they had opposable thumbs and could operate a can opener themselves, they'd have nothing to do with us! LOL! Funny thing of it is, I just love being "owned" & manipulated by my kitties. They truly do grace me with their exquisite existence!

I hate cats. They try to rule over you. My ex-girlfriend had this cat that use to jump in my lap everytime I tried to put the moves on my girlfriend. That thing was a brat! :( Fur ball with attitude. I think that's why we eventually broke up. Her stupid cat! :(

3 cats own us, They allow my husband & me to stay there so long as we take care of things. I have no doubt that if we were to stop taking care of things in that they would be advertising for new servants in some kitty want ads somewhere. Seriously, they are our children now that ours are grown and gone, We love their independance & never tire of their antics.

My cat definitely owns me, and my whole family, and he knows it! He works us very hard sometimes, just to make sure we know who's the boss.

All my cats have the upper hand in my household. They are living in a 5 star hotel. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Three of them have conceded me the honor of living in my home. Of course they own me. I'm a cat servant and I can't retire because they'd never pay my pension LOL
