Lots of people get this, so don't freak out. It can take quite a while to go away, however, and there's no guarantee it will not come back, even if you use a prescription. The 2 prescription drugs are terbinafine (Lamisil) and itraconazole (Sporanox). Both can damage the liver, and itraconazole also can damage the heart, so be aware that these are not real safe. In addition, you have to take them for about 3 months and about 40 percent of people don't get good results.

You can try topical vitamin E. If you can't find the oil, you can buy the gel caps, pierce them with a needle and squeeze out the oil. Treat the affected toes twice a day. Tea tree oil (available in health food stores) is also good; use just like vitamin E. Both of these natural ways take a long time--about 4-6 months--but so do the drugs and at least the natural ways are not toxic. Two other natural approaches are garlic oil and oil of oregano.

Good luck

There are over the counter treatments available at walmart and drug stores. Fungus is easy to get rid of...but you have to be patient. It takes a while for the treatment to work. Good luck!

Also, if you want to see a doc and get rid of it faster, there are pills that work too! But you will need a prescription.
