another great question... usually people from other religions are really really jealous ... yes jealous of our perfect religion . they bad mouth it because they are uneducated and want to run around in their own way like animals and don't have any boundries . and because allah created boundries for us that are fair in every way they became jealous because we could become way better than them . so you go girl be proud to be muslim.

Stereotypes come from fear of what people do not know. When people find out that I am Muslim they always are shocked and say "but you do not act like them. You do not want to kill people." I tell them that is not what Islam is about it is of peace. Some ask more questions but some think that I have been brain washed and do not know what I am talking about.
It is this fear of the unknown that makes people think that people that are different then them are stupid, uneducated, violent and backward. If these same people were to try to understand the religion as we are to respect people of the book then there would not me many of the problems we have today.
As to your rights they are incorrect. I am a Muslim woman and I can go any where I want to with out an escort. I chose to become a Muslim it was not forced. The one two ration only applies to inheritance because the man it to support the woman with the extra money how he sees fit. If I were to chose to divorce my husband I would be able to. It is against Islam to draw a picture of any kind of the Prophet (pbah). So that people would not make the mistake as they did with Jesus (pbah) and worship him.
Again with knowledge comes understanding

Good for you! I think the Radical Muslims have given the Good Muslims a bad name and the time for stereotyping is long since gone. I'm an atheist and I can't tell you how many people have come up to me and been like, "You're burning in hell!" or said they pittied me or said that Satan was possessing me/my thoughts. I've learned to ignore them, but dang is it irratating! And I hate it when people say atheists are all immoral people, so I know pretty well what you're going through and we all need to band together and show the world that we can be good people too.

The main reason is that Islam contradicts most common notions of human rights (values), I will give a brief list
1- Human right: - The freedom of movement
Islam: - a woman cannot travel without a mehram
2- Human right: - The right to choose ones religion freely
Islam: - leaving Islam is apostasy and is punishable by beheading
3- Human right: Equality before the law
Islam: - two women are the equivalent of one man
4- Human right: The right to divorce
Islam: a man can divorce his wife (she has no say in this), worse he can get her back (WITHOUT her consent) before a certain time elapses
5- Human value: - violence is condemned
Islam: - violence in the name of Islam is praised
6- Human value (right): The right to free expression
Islam: - anything that is offensive to Islam or its prophet should be met with violence (think of the Danish cartoon fiasco)
The above, and other similar points, make most people averse to Islam.

EVER WONDER WHY?
Why a Jew can grow his beard in order to practice his faith But when Muslim does the same, he is an extremist and terrorist! Why a nun can be covered from head to toe in order to devote herself to God But when Muslimah does the same she is considered oppressed .
When a western women stays at home to look after her house and kids she is respected because of sacrificing herself and doing good for the household? But when a Muslim woman does so by her will, they say, "she needs to be liberated"! Any girl can go to university wearing what she wills and have her rights and freedom? But when Muslim woman wears a Hijab they prevent her from entering her university!
When a child dedicates himself to a subject he has potentials. But when he dedicates himself to Islam he is considered hopeless!
When a Christian or a Jew kills someone his religion is not mentioned, but when Muslim is charged with a crime, it is Islam that goes to trial! When someone sacrfices himself to keep others alive, he is noble and all respect him.
But when a Palestinian does that to save his son from being killed, his brother's arm being broken, his mother being raped, his home being destroyed, and his mosque being violated -- He gets the title of a terrorist! Why? Because he is a Muslim! Whenever there is a trouble we try to find and solution to it and generally accept any solution? But if the solution lies in Islam, we refuse to take a look at it. When someone else drives a car in a bad way no one blames him. But when any Muslim makes the same mistake - people say "Islam is the reason"! Without looking to the traditions of Islam, people believe what the newspapers say. But question is what the Quran says!

they sterotype islam because all of the terrorists you hear about in the news are muslim. Also, they get stereotyped because good muslims like yourself do NOT condemn the killing and terrorism by bad muslims.
You shouldn't care what people think of you, but you should care that extremists are eroding the good name of islam.

Because like most religions and other things in life, they don't understand it. To not understand breeds fear and distrust. I'm christian, but I understand what you mean. Happens to all religion, Islam is just the "big Target" right now due to certain world events.

Ignorance and fear.
Ignorance is the single most dangerous condition of the human race. I am sorry people are so judgmental against your beliefs. I apologize for my fellow Americans.
I think the media needs to really work harder at pointing out this fact, any fundamentalist radical groups are not a representation of any one religion. They have their own agenda and are riding on the coat tails of good and decent people who have a connection with a higher power.
Bless you and yours.
