Obelisk? The obelisk is not important to Muslims. Are you referring to the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia? That IS important to all Muslims. But we don't worship it by any means. Its significance is that it was the first "mosque" built originally by Adam. During the time of idol-worshipping it housed idols until Islam came at the time of Muhammad. We perform the Hajj there and do certain rituals but they have various significance and is no way meant as a way to worship a stone/brick object. We worship only God and material objects have no place in Islam.

Obelisks are a specific type of monument (like, the Washington monument is an Obelisk). It just refers to the shape or architecture of the monument. It is not specific to Islam.

it is a left over of Phallic worship ,
when people worshiped the golden Penis of Horus .
a very old Pagan fertility rites.
with the coming of Islam and Christianity it blended with these religions to make the change over for Pagan people to these other religions go more easily.

And i suppose the Pagans were laughing in their beards knowing that Muslims and Christians were worshiping a Penis but not being aware of it
another such left over was the Xmas tree ,the first of May in fact most religious days are Pagan Holidays (holy days)renamed and given another explanation
