My question is for parents that hit thier children as punishment, first I'd like everyone to read this this a question, NOT a judgement, I dont really care about anything other then the question, and if you dont like the question, you don't have to answer it (you can go watch friends).

Anyway my question is if you think your child lies to you, and you hit the child, and later you find out that the child wasnt lieing at all. What exactly do you do?

Apologize.

Doesn't work?

Hit him in the head so he'll forget.

I am an old parent but never had to "hit" my children.
I have to say, tho, my father did "hit", not to injure, but he did teach all of us one thing,
"FEAR".
I never committed a crime. "FEAR"
I never stole, "FEAR"
I never got a girl pregnant, "FEAR"
I never had a doubt that he could kill me and make another one, just like me.
As for a mistake in punishment? First, search for truth. If punished, boy , does that parent owe an apology. Whatever it takes, within reason. Don't ask for a sports car. NOT!

My 7 year old son got in the happy of lying; so that I didn't believe him, once, when he was telling the truth.
I said, "[Son], This is not good and I am not happy."
I said, "I need to be able to trust you and I can't do that if I am compelled to question you."
I said, "I don't ever have to wonder if you are telling the truth, again. If I can trust you, then you can trust me to always, always support you."
I'm still waiting for that to work.

IF I had a child, I wouldn't THINK my child is lying; I would KNOW for sure before I punish them.

I would apologize to my child and promise him/her that I will never ever spank him/her for something unless I know for sure they had done it. I'm also sure they had told me they didn't lie and I'd let them know also how sorry I was for not believing them.

First of all I don't hit my child for lying. If I did, then I will say sorry to him.

this kind of incident is why i would never hit my child,he is grounded today though,it seems to me that hitting someone only shows them how they aught to handle problems, yet my child has ask why do i not just spank him,no,i am trying to teach him how to act and, this day,all of it, has gave him some time to think about it.-
