What's the difference between a bridal shower and bachelorette party? And kinds of things do you do there?

a bridal shower is a party thrown for the bride to be in good taste where she receives gifts at a nice lunch or dinner. usually the people there are the brides friends, bridesmaids, family members of the bride, and family friends, all female. a bachelorette party is just the brides friends (usually female) getting wild on her last night of "freedom". this usually consists of getting drunk, oggling (and sometimes touching) strippers, fun sexually inspired games (for example, pin the penis on the stud lol), and just getting to be with her friends for a good time and for support before she gets married. i'd recommend doing both and it's in perfect taste to do both as long as you don't throw yourself the party lol. just have a good time!! and congrats!!

A bridal shower is tasteful party that is typically thrown for the bride by the maid/matron of honor and the bridesmaids. Any female invited to the wedding can be invited to the bridal shower... I would not invite anyone not invited to the wedding as this is a time that gifts are received. Most of the time, it is women only; although, lately a lot of people are doing a "couples" shower so that males and females can come.
Bachelorette parties are more about spending 1 last time as a "single" gal... usually your friends (family members can come too) take you out. It could get pretty wild or just a fun time out with the girls.

A bridal shower is held to "shower" the couple with gifts they will need to furnish their house and start their new life together.
A bachelorette party is to get drunk and celebrate the last few weeks of being single. Never have this party any closer than a week to the wedding.

Bridal shower is where you invite all your female friends and family and they bring you presents and you play games and have little prizes and eat and be social. A Bachelorette party is where you and your girls (close friends) get together and go out on the town and live it up for your 'last night of freedom' sort of thing.

bachelorette party is not. you can get away crazy things. in a bridal shower it has to be calm or stuff.
if you are really close to your grandma and mom, then bridal shower.
if you want to have fun before you get married, bachelorette party.
