Bush said--'why try (close borders) its no use to try to isolate the Bird Flu' ' his words not mine.

I assume that is his opinion on all diseases.

You should be more concerned with the drug resistant strain of TB or typhoid or malaria that may be coming across our borders with illegal aliens.

As for Bird Flu, there have been 129 known human deaths since 2003, world wide.

Figures from the National Center for Health Statistics for the same period indicate deaths from influenza and pneumonia (they don't count them separately) are in excess of 60,000 per year, just here in the US.

It's really hard to see some impending Bird Flu pandemic in the statistics. I have to ask myself, who stands to make a bunch of money out of Bird Flu, whether it crosses the species boundary and then goes human to human or not.

You mean the illegal birds?

I guess it is possible, they did have some human transmittable bird flu in Indonesia, but I'd think it would be more likely we would get it from American rescue workers who went there after the earthquake. I don't think we have a ton of illegals from Indonesia.

Australia, now THEY might worry....

However, I get your point. We now have polio back and a resistant strain of TB that we had eradicated in this country. One problem with illegal immigrants is that they are not screened for health concerns.

Actually, now that I think about it, I did hear we are more likely to get it here from illegal chickens smuggled across the border for cock fights. I don't know what the source of that info was, but I do remember reading it.

No, no, and no.

First of all, it's extremely hard and rare to come across the seas illegally. Secondly, the probability of the person coming in illegally WITH the bird flu is extremely small. Thirdly, the bird flu is spread by birds and not by humans. It is foolish to dwell on the thought that illegal immigrants could bring bird flu to the U.S.

Okay, "What happening when Illegals brink Bird flu cross to US?" and people say that mexican's are dumb. Okay sweetie first let me tell you that the bird flu... "OKAY BE READY FOR THIS" comes from migratory birds. Unless you're thinking that we're going to put all infected birds into cages and cross them into the U.S. with us...Dee dee dee!

Probably the same as when legal travelers bring bird flu into the US.!!
Disease doesnt spread via illegally entering a country any more than it does via the international vacationer, or business traveller.
Not to mention, the migration of birds themselves...!!!!!

How old are you? Are you old enough to be on this forum? I can't believe you asked such an ignorant question. I don't think bird flu is something that we are worried about illegal immigrants bringing over. However, it is a fact that they are bringing other diseases such as TB and HIV. Bird flu comes from migrating birds, not from illegal immigrant human beings! Ha!

Unless you can prove they did it knowingly and with malice like AIDs people do, there's nothing you can do, illegal or otherwise, that's a human rights issue.

People still vacation in Mexico, my mom says that's their biggest money maker. If one of us was sick and infected people down there by sheer accident, I don't think you'd want to happen to them there what your thinking should happen to them here.

The only system of Government that was able to keep people out so there would be no AIDS and the like were communist nations. That we don't want to be.

It would be, however, as in other countries, legal to be tested for diseases before entering, and punishable under the law if you don't, but I don't know how much you'd be willing to pay for that when so many people already can't afford to be tested for anything. That would be another right they would have above us.

Are you thinking that people will bring bird flu into the US? It is being transported mostly by migratory birds that travel over the US and mingle with other populations of migratory birds that travel around the world.
