Regading religion, any religion, I don't think there are disrepectful questions. I think that followers of any religion just say "DO NOT QUESTION MY AUTHORITY!"
If followers of religion, any religion, say that their god or gods, are very powerfu, how come that a follower needs to defend their god, gods or their religion and threaten or harm the questioner? Isn't their god, gods above of so called 'disrespectful questions?'

Great question!

I think that you've hit the nail on the head here: Why do we feel the need to defend our deity from 'disrespectful questions'?

Here are a couple of possibilities
1. Deep-down, we doubt the power of our god/deity/beliefs so we fear that the reality of our "Religion" (be it theist, atheist, agnostic, etc) will not become a reality to the questioner unless WE DEFEND our Religion(!!!)

2. We feel that if nobody answers the question, that it will show that we've been "stumped".

3. It is an emotionally and spiritually immature response to our feelings being hurt by the questioner.

HOWEVER...
Even though there are legitimate questions that people ask about God, Religion, Faith, Athiesm, Agnosticism, etc, there ARE antagonistic questions, too.
Often it is pointless to even answer antagonistic questions because the questioner is simply looking for more ammo to persecute their group of interest (atheists, theists, etc etc); these people are NOT looking for a 'real' answer to their question, they are just looking to prove a point. Sometimes we don't realize that it's often time well-wasted to engage in such close-minded debate.

But hey, that's just my two cents.

Cheers!
:)

I understand what you're saying. Even the Bible says to "question all things" and people should be permitted to ask questions. Religion is interpreted in so many different ways. Five people can answer the same question completely different and be totally convinced that their interpretation is the correct one. That is why there are sooo many different religions. They are all firm believers that their religion is the ONLY religion.
There are a lot of people that don't understand their religion but follow it because that's what they are taught from the time they are small.
They don't feel comfortable questioning it because they were told not to question the preacher/priests/padres/minister or whatever you want to call them. That is also why children are so succeptible to child abuse at the hands of a religious leader because they are taught NOT to question them.
Parents should teach their children to question all things and to come up with the answers that make sense to them. It is fine for parents to guide their children but if their child comes up with a different truth than their parent when they are older, then the parents should respect their childs right to a personal opinion with free thought.

They are not defending the god so much as their own fragile ego. They have invested themselves in a cosmological view and cannot handle the prospect that they may be wrong. When they try to convince others, they are really just reassuring themselves and justifying the arrogance of presuming to have some special connection with the almighty. Kind of pathetic really. If there is a god, I'm sure he rolls his eyes whenever one of these idiots start proselytizing.

There is too much to religion. Everyone has a different outlook and there are many religions, as you know. I have a hard time believing everything in the bible because I feel that it was written by a bunch of ordinary men, sitting around, drinking, and writting what they WANTED to put in. The writtings have been manipulated to what they want us to know. I do believe that there was a man named Jesus that lived during that time, but thats just it - he was a man. A man that could easily teach the world of his god... and the followers that he had built him up.

Religion is a very touchy subject, and when people cross "lines" people scream disrespect. I don't think people should have these lines, but unfortunately they do so be careful what you say. But then again, this is online, so they can't reach across a table and stab you in the eye with a cross, now can they?

There is a difference between being curious, and just being an ***. asking a question, out of ignorance of the subject is not offensive....asking a question to tick someone off is.

with that said...i understand your point about:
"DO NOT QUESTION MY AUTHORITY!" every person believes his/her religion is the one and only true religion and all others are bogus....but then...to each his/her own. even if that means they have NO religion.

Because, deep down they are afraid that the god - gods
they believe in are not so strong. They are not willing to
share their god - gods with anyone.
If you asked questions about someones religion respectfully
than you should get all the information you want.
Knowledge creates understanding.

IGNORANCE!
If someone has something against my religion... It's their problem! They are the ones who are going to hell because my God will punish them for their acts. I stand by my beliefs, and live by them. However lots of ignorant people have been brainwashed by their leaders who are only seeking power. I don't mention what religions because that would cause a commotion here (their reaction would be... ignorant!)

This is very interesting question and I will try to answer.

There are no disrespectful questions because all types have been asked before over the human race life.

God-through messengers- answered them not to defend him, but to clarify to the questioner.

Humans are created to question to get factual inputs to help us take a decision-the reasoning process

Thus God needs no defense.

Yet, people defend their God, because people defend what they believe in.

If you choose to wear certain custom dress, and I did not like it, then you are likely to defend what you dress.

Everyone tends to enjoy his/her comfort zone, and they are resistant –defendant- to others who move them from that comfort.
