I was wondering what are some things I could do to help exercise my brain because I notice that one of my main problems in my school work is I rush through things kind of quickly, I mean I have no problem memorizing anything I once memorized 1,018 digits of pi, but when it comes to things like problem solving and the such I just lose focus and give up quickly. So I was wondering if there were some things I could do to help increase my focus and thinking, I purchased a Sudoku book recently could that help? any advice you all can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Try solving problems and questions, watching quiz`s and reading (books or on line). Here`s one to get you started :
what are the square roots of -7 + 24i
pronounced square roots of minus seven plus twenty four eye.

if you don`t know about complex numbers, research into this type of problem will increase your knowledge and hopefully open your mind up to new ideas and leave you wanting to find out more.

I think that mental skills are not transferrable from one subject to another.

If you are going to play Sudoku a lot, then you will become good at this game. But that won't make you good in Math or English.

If you want to learn how to solve Math problems, then you should study examples of how other people have solved such problems. And you should practice as much as you can solving such problems on your own. Practice makes perfect.

Textbooks sometimes are not well written, and you may be having difficulty because of that. I suggest that you find books and materials on the same subject from several different authors read their slightly different explanations. Sometimes one author says something that confuses you, but another author says it more clearly and makes you understand it better.

One good source to look up many different subjects in great detail is Encyclopedia Wikipedia at this link:

Yes, Sudoku is GREAT as a mental exercize, but remember to address ohert parts of the brain with differing exercises. Try crossword puzzles (almost as hard as you can stand), difficult hidden picture puzzles (like the I Spy books for kids, but there are challenging, adult-oriented ones), riddles, etc. Yahoo has a brain games site that you can add to your My Yahoo page, which allows you to choose from a variety of puzzle types daily. Good luck!

Wow! That many digits! How long did it take you?

I suggest doing puzzles like Sudoku and crossword puzzles. You can also find new puzzles out there and find the right one for you. Also, you can try to concentrate more in school and reward yourself if you start doing better. I hope I helped! and don't forget to vote me as the best answer if you think it is! Thx!

Probably Sudoku is a frustrating exercise in futility. Better to take on a more interesting project.

I would try meditation and also reading. You need to relax the mind and force yourself to concentrate.
