They never used to swear as much. Only the "bad kids" used to swear. Now almost everyone you'll ever meet, swears.
Offensive? Yes, it is. I especially don't want my children to have to hear it; I would hope people could contain themselves long enough whenever there are children around.
But it has to do with values. If your values are that your heros are the latest pop stars as opposed to the Prophets of God, you're going to place higher value on the cursing, crotch grabbing, materialism and everything else that comes with pop music and its videos. If you are taught to highly value God and his Prophets then you are much more likely to value more wholesome environments and the thought of settling down instead of being a "playya" (player)
You know, when I was young, I thought older people were just exaggerating about how much times were different when they were growing up. But they were right. I have a long way to go, God willing, but I have already witnessed major changes in the way things typically are. This society has lost its innocence.

I don't mind it too much, but I do have limits. Someone who lives in the same block as me swears a lot, and isn't shy to use every swear word under the sun. That can be offensive to some, and it is a little disrespectful if every other word is a profanity. I guess if someone challenged him about it he'd go into one though and turn the air bluer than it already is.
I hardly swear at all and it can take people by surprise when I do say something blue.
Worst is when kids swear I think, young ones. Can't remember when I was at school if many kids swore as much as now.

My answer to this question is yes. The only reason that kids swear so much is that they think it is cool. Why cool? Well listen to the music, just about every other word is swaring and some of it is down right offensive. The language in movies is quite offensive. What makes it so offensive is hearing the f word in every other sentence . So if this is acceptable to the public then why shouldn't the younger generation find their language cool.

Intersting subject! I think that when you swear too much, the words lose their impact. It used to be that you swore to express your displeasure, etc, example hitting your thumb with the hammer youd probably yell a swear! Now you hear the words all the time, they seem an acceptable part of day to day life, thing is not everyone has accepted these words so theyre still offensive, but people saying them unnecessarily dont realise! I swear a lot with friends, but NEVER with family, guess Im a chameleon!

Swear words are meant to offend. They're also known as abusive words, curse words, profanity, blasphemy... totally meant to offend.
As kids latched on to the words to gain attention or to rebel, their usage has erupted to the point of becoming filler words, no different than "um", "like", "er". But the message they carry is still there, even if the intent is not.
It's commonly thought today that people swear for two main reasons:
Out of frustration, or because they lack the vocabulary with which to express themselves.
I appreciate that some people will try to limit their swearing in public, but I hope they will someday feel their friends and family are worthy of the same consideration.

I try to keep my swearing to a minimum but sometimes I swear when I can't control it, like when a fire alarm goes off and I say s***.
However, I think society uses swear words too heavily. Some would argue that it's freedom of speech, yet some cross the line at times. I find it alarming when young children start to pick it up, like my younger sister who picked it up at school. You do not see intellectuals use it on a regular basis, unless they're trying to put stress on something.
This is highly arguable, yet I read somewhere that excessive use of profanity is a sign of an underdeveloped person.

I don't find that people in general swear too much but KIDS do. I see 10-14 year old kids swearing CONSTANTLY. They don't know how to use swear words...everything is a swear word and it just comes off really bad. You should only swear if you are really upset or making a point. It shouldn't be in a normal conversational thing to curse.

I swear but I have had to curb my swearing since having kids why should my kids have detention at school for a behaviour they learnt from me I do get offended with excess swearing that is just not called for, and depends on the language that is being used some of it is just crude!
In small doses ok if in large or very loud doses not so good!

Yes. I personally find it offensive. I don't swear at all. I think that it's an unflattering way to show your intelligence. I don't understand why each word that comes out of anyone's mouth for a sentence as simple as, "I can't wait to get home from work" or something like that has to be so harsh and inappropriate... Language can be just as colorful withOUT such offensive words... but you know, I am just one person. That won't stop people from doing it.

Swearing is a common habit in young people .They do it because they think that people do not believe in what they are saying. In most of the cases ,it stops with the age or when one gets mature.Up to this point ,it is all right to swear but beyond this,it is a bad habit and it gets offensive and annoying.
