What is a family friend and how do you get one on The Sims 2?

My job level is 6 and it says I need 1 family friend to get another promotion, so my job level can be 7. I was advancing and I didn't know what I was doing. Now I want to get to level 7 and drive a limo to work but my main question is what is a family friend and how do you get one?

TS2 is sadly lacking the hot date-style sit-down dinner. (which I HOPE they reintroduce in a future EP) HOWEVER there is a substituion for it: Chess.

Have your sim sit down and start playing chess, then click on the person you want to build daily with. They will join you for chess...and be locked into playing chess. So none of that "I'm tired of your topic, I'm walking way" stuff. They will play and chatter, play and chatter.

Playing Chess with another fulfills the following wants/fears
"Play with SIM" 500
"Win a game against SIM" 1000 (According to prima, victory in chess depends on the logic skill)
"Lose a game against SIM" -500
"Gain a skill point" 1000
"Gain a logic skill point" 1000
"Reach logic level X" Variable

Playing chess fills the fun, comfort and social needs all at once
Fun goes up faster for serious sims
Comfort depends on how comfy the chairs are
Social seems to go up at the same rate.

The only times your guest will leave the chess game will be when their needs drop low enough to kick them out of the item (frequently bladder and hunger are the culprits) or if you are playing chess on a community lot, and it gets late, they will leave the chess game when they want to leave the lot.

Best way to make friends with chess:
1. Play chess at home, with friends from work or even walk-bys
2. Play chess on the community lots. I would reccomend going to the lot before noon, as sims generally don't start leaveing the chess game until around 7 PM, giveing you a full 7 hours of chess...which is normally more than enough to get 100 daily.

Chess is also great for makeing the rest of the family like new family members.
Chess also has the benefit of being low maintenence. You can set your sim down with another to play chess, then focus your attention on another sim. "set it and forget it!"
Chess is a great party game! Nevermind MYSHUNO! The relationship gains from two people playing chess during a party help the party score more than a game of MYSHUNO!

Almost all of my sims that I play, Legacy family or otherwise, have maxxed logic skill because of how much chess they play making friends.

It means you need a friend from outside of your household. You can talk to them, show them a trick, serve them dinner, talk to them ALOT. Just make sure they are happy and you will have a family friend! Remember to invite them over once in a while or they will not be your friend anymore!
