I just had a gallbladder attack on June 6, 2006 and the pain was unbearable. The pain went from in between my ribs around to my back in between my shoulders. I have to have mine out tomorrow. If your friend thinks that is what it is then she needs to get to the ER because it could kill her if it is bad enough.

A pear-shaped organ just below the liver that stores the bile secreted by the liver. During a fatty meal, the gallbladder contracts, delivering the bile through the bile ducts into the intestines to help with digestion. Abnormal composition of bile leads to formation of gallstones, a process termed cholelithiasis. The gallstones cause cholecystitis, inflammation of the gallbladder.

Often, there are no symptoms of gallstones. The gallstones lie quietly within the gall bladder and are usually found by chance. If a gallstone is obstructing the gall bladder, there will be severe pain in the upper right side of the abdomen. The pain will come and go in waves as strong muscular contractions. Strong muscular contractions occur because the body is trying to get rid of the obstruction. Other symptoms are: mild pain under the right ribs. This pain ususally occurs after eating fatty foods. It occurs after eating fatty foods because fat in the diet provokes a reflex contraction of the gall bladder.

The gallbladder is a structure on the underside of the liver on the right side of the abdomen. The function of the gallbladder is to store bile that is produced in the liver before the bile is secreted into the intestines. Bile secreted into the intestines helps the body digest fats.

I don't know I don't have one anymore. But the pain hurts like hell. I lived with it for years. By the time they remove it, I had over 100 gallstones. Don't wait it could be something else. If you have tried to get rid of the pain and can't go to the emergency room and have an ultrasound done. It's worth it.

Your gallbladder is in the upper right (front) quadrant of your body. See if your doctor will refer you to a Gastroenterologist. This is a specialist dealing with digestive diseases. AND believe it or not.....the gallbladder has something to do with digestion.

it is more in the front, middle of right side, but pain can radiate to back, can be confusing and seem like kidney. it is close to pancreas and at end of the duodeum. If uthin you are havinf gal bladder problems, see the doc, dont want to have full open gall blader surgery like i did.

The gall bladder slants across the liver with the small part at left back and sack near right front.

i had a gallbladder attack, a week after i had my daughter. my pains were in the front. it was the worst pains ever. first attack i had ever had. i was in the hospital for three days before they took it out. i was out of my mind with pain. my husband said i asked them to kill me at the hospital to put me out of my misery. i had it removed and went home 18 hours after the surgery. i felt 100% better, and was almost normal when i went home, just a little sore.
