We went on a Carnival© Cruise through Italy, Spain, France and Croatia. We were nickeled and dimed for everything. Some of these charges were not in their booklet they send you, so you don't know what your getting yourself into. For example, they charged 5 euros for a shuttle into downtown Venice. And, don't even think about using your mini bar in the stateroom. I mean, 4 bucks for a Coke, I don't think so! And if you wanna play bingo, 10 bucks for a card. ONE CARD! C'mon thats rediculous. And a shore excursion costs at least $200 for the three that was in my group, which is outrageous. Does anyone else agree with me?

We used public transportation and just drank their iced tea.

Undoubtedly! Carnival is the very worst with their underhanded policies and hidden charges. Their fees (once discovered) are outrageous.
However, there is hope. After I wrote a long letter to their sister company explaining their lack of information provided regarding certain charges, they gave me minimal refunds. However, it is a start.
Good luck!

Carnival is known as the "ala carte" cruise. The price is lower than other lines to begin with, but you get onboard and you find there is a lot more expenses.

However, the cost you mentioned are all costs that are not included in most cruises. Transportation around the ports is never included, unless you have a shore excursion that provides transportation. Mini bars, even in hotels, are never included in the rates and the costs are always higher than what you could find on your own. Actually, $4 for a soda in a minibar is quite low. Bingo is about $10 on all cruise lines. And the shore excursions are always expensive, look at any line, they are expensive and not included, that is just how cruises work.

If you booked with a travel agent, they will always let you know this information prior to your cruise (if they are a specialist) That way you have fewer surprises once you arrive.

And it did say that there was free transportation in port and free soda in your cabin? Shore excursions always have been expensive when booked directly through ANY cruise line.

Sounds if perhaps an all inclusive vacation is more your style.

Cruises in general are like this, unless you go with QE2 or QM2 and pop for the "deluxe" trip. Otherwise you're on your own. You get what you pay for! Like on an airplane, if you travel coach, don't expect first class services!
