The drive to find extra food is especially strong shortly after whelping. It is such a strong instinct that training at this time will do no good.

All the discipline it the world will only cause undo friction, and may keep her from producing quality milk (as stress reduces production) .

Until the pups are weaned, just put the trash in another closed room when you aren't home. (I close it in the bathroom)

After the pups are weaned, email me and I will give you some pointers.

Sounds like this dog has not had a very good diet in the past. Since you have said you asked the vet I'm guessing the vet checked to make sure there is not a tooth bothering him or something like that. It may take some work and time to get the dog adjusted to eating dog food, which he really needs to do, for his health. Put the dry dog food down, show him where it is, maybe offer a piece by hand. No treats, no human food, no cat food. He will get hungry and eat the food. You can try, dicing some chicken and mixing it in with the food as an added enticement.

She sounds to me like she needs more food or some kind of supplement. They need special attention and maybe more food than usual. She's feeding pups now and that is a major drain on a mom.....It might be worth a call to your Vet.

Take the trash out when you leave the house and it won't there for her to get into...........I would treat her very special at this time.

Got GAME 275: You are an idiot.....You don't rub a dog's nose in anything to train him/her. The dog will not know what the hell it is being punished for.....I suppose you rub your dog's nose in poop and pee too??????? I hope you don't treat your kids like that.......

Sprinkle pepper or hot sauce on top of the trash before you leave. After a few times, the dog will stop. You can do the same if the dog is chewing on stuff. Just use pepper on hot sauce (unless your pet has a spicy side).

Get special lids, put your trashcans behind a fence, or something like that. Also, you might try putting green apple spray near the trashcans (you can get it at a petstore and most dogs hate it) I strongly advise against giving her scraps, it will make her overweight and probably encourage her to go after the trash more.

Put a lid on the trash can and then hide it. Give her scraps of food to eat too.

My dog does the same thing. What I do is tie up the trash bag and through it out. Or put it somewhere she can't get in to it.

Put the trash in a place that is inaccessible to the dog. Problem solved.

if i was you i would put a bag in the trash can and then put a lid over it and then put the trash can in the landrey room or a different room and shut the door and tell your dog every time she gets in there spank her and tell it NO but if you don't want to spank her just lock her in a room and tell her bad dog! good luck!

put the garbage in the garage or in another room and shut the door. This will take the dogs mind off of it and after a while u will not have to worry about it anymore.
