How safe is a baby around a pit bull? I'm very worried.

The only problem I would see with having a Pit Bull around a baby or any small child is that while they aren't very big they can play pretty rough and may knock down a child. Also, if the baby is around the dog a lot he or she may become very protective of the child. Pit Bulls are very good with children and usually people in general. It sounds like the owner of the dog is very confident in his or her temperament and since she has owned the dog since it was a puppy she knows how it has been raised. Of course, there are exceptions and you should be careful with any breed of dog around a baby.

Hi congratulations by the way about the baby also about the pit bull it depends on how she has raised it I as a baby and a child grew up with a pit bull he was a great dog very loyal yes he killed other dogs and animals but never once hurt a person he use to let me ride around on his back until i was like seven years old and never once bit me or hurt me any way and i was really a terror for a child with animals a other kids but he was a good dog so i would say you would have nothing to worry about just when the baby comes let him smell it to get use to the baby sent because it will be a new change but as long as he has not been bitten other people or kids i think it would be fine just watch the baby around him and as he or she gets older teach them how to be proper around the animal

I alway felt the same way as you did about pit bulls. Oh my God!!! Why would anyone ever have one. And then I watched a documentary on pit bulls that was hosted by Linda Blair. She has set up rescue centers for pit bulls...especially puppies that were taken to the pound simply because of their breed. You might want to look into getting it and watching it. It was very informative and told how pit bulls are really very loving dogs. Any breed will become hostile if they are raised to be that way. The problem with a pit bull is his jaw is different and it automatically locks.....and delays. If the dog wants to unclench jaw it can't right away. There is an area right under the dogs mouth that unlocks it instantly. Once I saw the documentary we went to the pound. Guess what was there? A pit bull.......lots of them. The pound said that pit bulls are really very loving and loyal dogs. WE scoped one out, watched his mannerisms and saw that he was kind hearted.
We have had him going on two years now.
He has never barked when people come to the door...........and they do often. He simply whines once when he needs to go out.
If my son leaves to go to a friends house in the nieghborhood.......
even if he isn't outside...........he can go right to the neighbor's house and sit by the door and wait for my son to come out. (loyalty)
ALL DOGS NEED TO BE WATCHED WHEN A NEW BORN COMES IN THE HOUSE!!! They can become extremely jealous of the baby if not given their regular attention.

You know it all depends on the dog. If you know that the dog is rough and might harm the child, then it's very possible. I've heard pit bulls are the worst kid of dogs when it comes to getting along with children. But because i haven't personally met the dog, it's your decision if the dog is gental enough

you have good reason to be worried. Pit bulls have inner instinct to attack and I don't care how gentle they may be. Babies/children are curious by nature and could touch the dog and provoke it to attack.
I saw a pit bull attack one time and the end of a 10 foot metal pole was used to pry it's mouth open.

Well , you want an answer, and my opinion is that I'D be worried too. I may be biased cause i don't like pitbulls , but i would get rid of it, you can't trust those dogs around little babies.

I love dogs, but I wouldn't care how long i had the dog or how well it's trained I wouldn't let it in the room with my baby. A lot of dogs, not just p.b.'s see small children as food or a threat and attack. Please be very careful.

You have good cause to worry. She risks the child's life.
