Every person reacts differently to antidepressants. My friend is happy as ever on Zoloft, but it made me suicidally depressed. The only thing to do is keep trying until you find a medication that works for you.

the problem with anti depressants is that once you start taking them you can never stop taking them no matter how hard you try. If you tell your doctor s/he will just give you a higher dosage and you won't even know what planet your on anymore, the best thing is to talk to someone, go to your local community centre as a lot of them offer short course or just a time to meet other people as it maybe a case of you not really get involved in much so you have more time to think about things that are depressing you.

Different people react differently with anti-depressants. I will tell you that you do not want to take Paxil or the generic Paroxetine. This SSRI is very addicting contrary to what the maker claims. Unfortunately I have been on it for 10 yrs now.
There are soo many different ones to try that it is hard to know what would work for you. Are you sure it is true depression and not simply anxiety or something similar? You can try taking St. John's Wort; it's a natural anti-depressant that may do the trick if you are not severly depressed.

I suffer from manic depression and I'm taking lithium. Maybe medicine is not all you need. You also need to have good friends also. There is a website called nolongerlonely.com which helps people deal with their depression. It's sort of like a friendship/ dating website. If you are not satisfied with the meds, try goin out for a nice walk. I did today and it made a huge difference in my life. Or contact me dogmicjoe@yahoo.com. I empathize with you. Good luck. Remember you are special and beautiful and that is the reason why you should not be depressed.

Antidepressants alone wont completely help you. You need some good support from family, friends and your doctor.
However, if you're looking for a specific antidepressant, try venlafaxine. It is an SNRI (serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor) rather than an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) such as peroxetine and fluoxetine. SNRIs have 2 modes of action rather than the one that SSRIs offer.
Get well soon.

lexapro did not do me any good so I switched to welbutrin xl
150 mg, my mom takes 300 mg dose and an older on that she uses as a sleeping pill on of the first ones made i forget what it is called, just talk to you doctor try a new one about every 3 wks or so until you find what works for you, lexapro killed my "sex drive" but i slept like a log then my body got used to it that's why i switched to welbutrin no kill of sex drive it may keep you awake though(welbutrin) I'm 27 so i think it depends on body chemistry and age my mom is 51.

I've tried wine, women, pot and song...all my life I have just called it my "perpetual blues", a year ago by accident I got started on zoloft and welbutrin ("they compliment each other")...I don't want to go back to how I was...it's akin to a miracle...in this day and age no one should have to suffer from things that cause pain or harm...the big cure for a lot of things is love!
