yes you can read PowerPoint presentation without PowerPoint installed but you have to save the presentation in PowerPoint show (PPS)
go to file mune --------> save as ------> PowerPoint show
this way u can save any PowerPoint presentation and take it any where without worrying about if the office is install or not

There is a very mall program inside windows that is called a reader. If you just double click the file name it should automatically launch, that is, if the file has a ppl extension. Good luck.
