Why do they allow their children to cross the border with strangers, ie. Coyotes? Is it worth it to endanger their children? If a legal Citizen did something similar, they would be in jail and their children would be in foster care.

So according to some of you, it is okay to endanger their children or leave them alone so that the parent(s) can improve their income status illegally in America???

Well there are plenty of predators on the border that would love to know that a child is crossing a border alone. And, because they are undocumented, how can an Amber alert help save them from potential danger? It is not worth the risk to commit a felon by coming here and risking a innocents life, period.

What a great observation. It would seem they do. As you know there are child endangerment laws here in America to protect children from unfit parents. And in my opinion, a parent that would attempt to take a child on such a perilous journey is in breach of the duties of a parent and therefore an unfit parent.

You have to remember, the Mexican government sends them here. Their country assures them everything will be fine. And looking at the number, out of 4 million a year, only about 1400 die.

Their country is subverting their national pride telling them America is better, then when they get here to support Mexico. It's a vicious cycle of lies and we wont' put up with it. They have to know NO MORE.

As I understand, as far as the troops on the border, they can't do anything they are just a deterrent. They could walk right past them and there's nothing they can do.

Tropical Woman: You cannot compare Cuba to Mexico. Mexico must solve it's own social problems and not FORCE them on us. Even Cuban in Miami I am told tried to colonize for Cuba. Thank goodness that didn't happen and we can talk civily right now. Cubans don't have a political choice, Mexico does.

American Freedom isn't free - and our borders are not open to anyone that wants to come here. In this country as another other it's based on the needs of the country. And as hard to find a good job now, Mexican colonization thrown down our throats is disgusting, and don't blame us if they get hurt or die on the way, they made their choice.

I didn't tell any Mexican to risk there life to come up here. That fact that they do doesn't make it my responsibility to take care of them - If I have to sink or swim so do they. I cannot afford to get a job for benefits or go to a doctor and pay in years. Now you tell me they can at my expense? Let's talk when I get free health care and housing and training and invest money in me to start a business. America has the soverienty, the right, and the responsibility to deport anyone that doesn't belong here. The cost for their free civil rights amounts to almost communism.

Period.

One last thought: We would love it if you'd send Joanne Chesimar up our way. That we would thank you, and pay you nicely for it.

I think some do but not all. In one case a beautiful 2 or 3 year old Mexican girl was found in a dumpster. Instead of coming forwards to claim her they did not why. They were illigal. They dresses her beautifully and put her in a box like a coffin.

i think they care but it doesn't matter for me the root of the problem is mexico's corrupt government and i as a American am tired of supporting corruption if that does not change then we will still be having these problems years from now they must be sent back and i think mexico should be brought up on charges for doing this to their people and us i have a big problem with them demanding from us all the while showing patriotism to mexico its pure ignorance and we have to be a the grown up here and say because we said so !

I understand your concern, but the issue is not a simple one. Let me illustrate.

I am not an illegal immigrant or naturalized citizen, but I am a Puerto Rican and thus, someone who was born an American in a Latin American island. I feel for both sides of the issue.

The first time I visited Texas - as a teenager - my brother and his wife decided to take me to Mexico. We drove to the border, although I can't remember the name of the town. It was July, and very, VERY hot. (This was around 1978). There was a drought going on, and I remember vividly that the Rio Grande was completely dry.

When we were crossing the bridge, I saw a number of round huts made out of straw, built right in the border. I was shocked to find out that Mexican families lived there, like the Indians must have centuries ago. (Remember, I was an impressionable teenage girl).

Once we got to town and walked around, many artisans were peddling their wares to the tourists. I am talking about gorgeous things (purses, necklaces, etc.) being sold for $1- $5 dollars. We went to a furniture store and there was an amazing carved sofa made out of beautiful wood. It only cost $400. I wanted to ship it home, it was that great.

A couple of years later a terrible hurricane hit Mexico/California. After that, TIME magazine ran a picture on the cover. It showed a Mexican man and his family, crossing the bridge to the United States DURING the hurricane. He had tied himself to his wife and children. The photographer captured them, heads bowed, forging ahead against the wind to get to the other side.

All I could think about was: "How desperate do you have to be to put yourself and your family at such terrible risk?" When TIME interviewed the man, he said that he and his wife had decided to take their chance then because they figured nobody would stop them. He was right. They were allowed to stay.

I have many Cuban friends who left Cuba after Fidel Castro deceived his countrymen and took them from the horrible regime run by Fulgencio Batista, to an even worse nightmare, once supported financially by the Soviet Union.

I could tell you many stories, but one stands out. A girl my age who became my friend when I was a High School Senior told me how she and her family left Cuba. One evening, when she and her sister were 2 and 4 yrs. old respectively, her mother woke her up at midnight. She said: "Honey, let's get you dressed real quiet. Daddy is waiting for us, we are going on an adventure."

Her mother made her put on as many layers of clothes as she could, and a pair of tennis shoes. Then she told her she could bring only one toy with her, so she must choose carefully. Once her mother did the same with the other daughter, they left their house and walked through the "jungle" until they reached the beach.

There, her father and his best friend were waiting with a homemade rubber boat. There were about 10 gallons of water on it (her father later confirmed). They said their tearful goodbyes and left, on their way to Miami, FL, where family awaited them. They did not say goodbye to anyone else for fear of retribution, meaning jail.

When she told me the story, I asked myself the same question: How desperate does a man have to be to put his life and that of his family at risk in such a dangerous way?

Freedom. Equal opportunity. Justice. We take those things for granted.

Do I think there should be no immigration laws or limits to the number of people who can come to the U.S.A. legally? Of course not! Am I so naive to believe everyone who comes here illegally is a hardworking, decent person. No way! However, many of them are just that. People who are trying to make a better life for themselves and their families.

What should we do? If I had the answers, I'd be a politician.

I can't judge them. The situation is complex, and the elected officials who are paid to manage the situation better solve it - and SOON! Our National Security depends on it.

Thanks for listening.

Some bring their children with them, but most leave their children temporarily in the care of their parents in their country.

Some do -some don't. Just like here.

If we would stop and enforce are laws maybe Innocent people would not get hurt.

If they followed laws maybe the same.

most immigrants care more about their kids and this is why they take such risks to get their families to the US where they can create a better life
