the top 3 ab exercises according to men's health magazine are:

1. swiss ball crunch - targets your medial abs and saves your back
2. the air bicycle - lie on your back and cup your hands behind your head. bring your right elbow to your left knee, then alternate like a bicycle
3. hanging leg raises - this targets the lower abs

sorry, only the air bicycle can be done without equipment... but i also recommend the video called '8 minute abs'.... it's a crazy 8 minute ab workout which done daily will give you rock hard abs in a month.... you can find it on the net actually

Pilate's.
The fundamental purpose of Pilate's is to strengthen the core muscles in order to improve posture and general body alignment. Your core muscles include, but are not limited to, your abs. The best way to get flat toned abs (I am assuming you aren't going for six pack definition) is by strengthening the entire core. I supplement my yoga and Pilate's with crunches and I do work on a 45 degree hyper extension. This piece of equipment is used to isolate the lower back in a reverse sit up type motion. I feel so strong and balanced after working on abs and back alone. However, after a great Pilate's class my entire core feels worked. Good luck!

The best abs work out I have seen by far is the old video "abs of steel".

Its killer, and you could be sore for DAYS! But if you keep doing it, it will pay off!

your regular crunch is good , making sure your shoulders dont touch the floor , holding yourself in a push up position and sucking your tummy in and holding it for 20-40 seconds, and also I like to do the reverse crunch where your crossing your legs and making sure your lifting your butt off the ground , and remember to breathe , its very important when doing ab crunches
