The first time your puppy should go to the vet is at 8 weeks old. At this first visit the vet will do a complete checkup for worms and give the puppies first shots. He will probably check his ears and everything else to make sure nothing is going on with it that shouldn't be. After you get the first set of shots you will have to get another set of shots 2-3 weeks later .

It depends on several things, and most answers will vary.
1. Do you own the mom and the babies?
If so, (my recomendation) within 24 hours of the last puppy being born go to the vet to make sure everything is OK with mom, and to get the babies a very general/quick check-up, ensure the puppies are breathing clearly, with no congestion of the lungs, no hernias, and no deformities.
I worm the puppies at home every 14 days for three days in a row (no vet visits)
I go back to the vet for their in depth check up and 1st set of puppy shots at 8 weeks of age. (I have small dogs)
2. Did you get the puppy from someone else?
I would recommend taking it to the vet as soon as the vet can give you an appt.
Depending on the puppies age, the vet will want to start it on its puppy shots (there are 3 sets of them given about a month apart)
Usually the puppy shots are started at about 6 weeks of age for larger breed dogs and 8 weeks for small breed dogs, This will depend a lot on your vet and how healthy the puppy appears.

THE PUPPY SHOULD BE SEEN RIGHT WHEN YOU GET IT. ALL REPUTABLE BREEDERS AND PET STORES HAVE GUARANTEES ON THEIR PETS, BUT MOST OF THEM ONLY LAST FOR 48 HOURS. PUPPIES SHOULD START SHOTS AT SIX WEEKS AND GO EVERY TWO WEEKS FOR 3 MONTHS AND THEN GET THE RABIES SHOT AT 4 MONTHS. ALL THIS EARLY MAINTENANCE IS VITAL TO PROTECTING YOUR PET FROM DEADLY VIRUSES THAT THEY CAN CONTRACT. IT'S A LOT AT FIRST BUT THEN VACCINATIONS ARE ANNUAL AFTER THAT. I RECOMMED SPAYING OR NEUTERING BETWEEN 4 AND 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU PUPPY MATURES. DOING THIS WILL HELP ENSURE A LONGER LIFE FOR YOU DOG AND LESSEN CHANCES OF HIM GETTING TESTICULAR CANCER OR HER GETTING MAMORY CANCER OR DEADLY UTERINE INFECTIONS. UNNEUTERED ANIMALS ALSO HAVE A TENDENCY TO RUN AWAY AND BECOME AGGRESSIVE. ALL THIS CARE CAN MAKE FOR A MUCH MORE ENJOYABLE PET. HOPE THIS HELPS AND HAVE FUN WITH YOUR DOG.
