If your hen is over 18 weeks old or has already started laying then it varies from a few to several minutes. Sometimes if they know you are watching they will figit and it can take a lot longer. Hens like to be in dark corners and secluded. Once she lays the egg she may not come off the nest... she may go broody and stay to hatch the egg. If there are other hen's eggs in the nest again she may stay and try hatching the eggs. Hens don't care whose egg it is if it's there and they go broody they will set and hatch them out. I've been raising chickens for years and learned by doing and reading so anytime I can help I like to.

It depends on the hen, some are faster and some are slower, but it's usually around 10 min or so from the moment they get in the nest. And right after laying the egg they usually sit for a minute to rest before climbing back out again.

I had chickens growing up and they will slow down laying around 5 years. You might still get a few eggs every now and then but nothing like when they are young. Around 7 years they don't lay many or any eggs. Chickens live longer then 7 years more like 10 years or longer. SO space out how many you get at a time so that you have room for young ones.

I don't know the answer to this question. But I do know they need to be relaxed to lay eggs. If a coop gets all stirred up none will lay as many eggs as they could. And when a hen stops laying eggs all together, their tonights dinner.
