Jam is made from the whole fruit and cooked until it reaches a jelling consistency, though it usually isn't as thick as jelly.
Jelly is the juice of the fruit with all of the pulp, seeds, and skins strained out, then cooked until it reaches a given temperature from which it will cool into the spread you know with that name.

Technically, the difference is that jam has lumps of fruit in it, and jelly does not. But it's all good, slathered on a nice hot slice of toast!

Jam is uncooked or cooked less than 5 minutes, and Jelly is cooked for a long time until it develops a "jelly" texture.

Jelly is made from fruit juice so it does not have fruit pieces. Jam is made by boiling fruit and contains fruit pieces. Jam is a thicker consistency.

Jelly is clear and made from fruit juice. Jam is not clear, may have small fruit pieces in it and is made from the fruit itself, not just the juice.

Jelly has no seeds or chunks of fruit in it. It's just the flavored gel.
