Thank God we have them. Years gone by people dies because they didn't have access to such things. Any way, about being scared. Being scared is what you need to be scared of. The emotional stress caused by fear can cause all sorts of physical problems, most of which are caused by excess adrealine. Notice the next time you are scared at anything the condition of your muscles. Most of the time they will tense up in preperation to fight or run, a natural means of self preservation. But tensioning of the muscles also cause the needle to have a more difficult time penetrating, thereby causing pain. Relax, think of something else, look away from the event, chances are you will never even feel the process. I don't, and I have to give myself shots all the time. I'm diabetic and some of my organs have ceased to fuction the way they should and I have to take weekly suppliments that have to be injected intramuscularly, 1 to 1 1/2 inches into the large muscles on the legs. You can take injections with no pain if you want to. Its up to you!!!

When I was a child I cut a big gap in in my foot and was rushed to the Doctor.......I was sooooooo panicked and afraid because they were fixing to give me a shot inside the wound itself.... The nurse talked to me and told me to focus my mind on something that is really fun that I love to do and no matter what don't stop thinking about it. So I focused on going to the County Fair and riding all the rides and hearing all the sounds and smelling the smells.....any way it worked They gave me 3 shots in the wound and I never looked and never took my mind off the Fair and I never knew when they gave me the shots. So I have done this ever since and I have taught my children to do it too.

Yes, I'm scared to get a shot, but I've found over time that the anticipation is always worse than the actually shot. Just do it and get it over with - it usually just takes a few seconds.

Getting shots is never easy. I normally look for something in the exam room (ie. comic strip, pictures, instruments...) anything to focus on. Then before he gives the shot I concentrate on one of those things. I make sure that I am not looking in the direction of the docter administering the shot. Most of the time the shot is done before I even know it.

Good luck!

I am scared to death! They can take all the blood they want from me but when they want to give me a shot I freak. I know that is weird! I had to have a shot last year when I had a severe kidney infection. I actually had a panic attack. It took two nurses to calm me down. One just kept talking to me while the other one gave me the shot. It helped having her keep my mind on something else-and don't watch I swear it hurts worse when you know its coming!LOL

yes i am. i just look the other way and think of a song. now that i have an mp3 player i'll probably take it along on all my doctor visits to use as a distraction in case i need a shot.

Doesn't seem like many people get shots now days -- most doctors want to give you a prescription medication. Ask for a prescription pill instead and see what they say.

I used to be terrified of shots, but found a trick to them. Pinch yourself (a tiny pinch) and that's about what a shot feels like. Just before you get a shot, remember that tiny pinch and pretend that's what's happening to you at that moment in time. This worked wonders for me!!
