There is some merit in it as minors should not have access to some of the discussions.

The main problem is that there is no way to police it unless Yahoo start some form of identity checking (which isn't going to hapen with free accounts).

It's tempting to consider BUT I'm not so sure I want to segregate because I agree with the other answerers that having Yahoo! Answers open to all adds entertainment value and us older folks can share knowledge with the young 'uns.

I think we all can improve Yahoo! Answers by chiding immature questioners and reporting those who are abusive. Besides, the parents of these children bear some responsibility for where their children go on the internet. However, we, the rest of the community, can do our part by answering responsibly. That doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't have fun. They're going to encounter that as well. This is a learning tool. Some of the lessons may take some explaining but isn't that part of what life's about?

I don't think there should be age restrictions. I understand that sometimes adults find some of the questions childish and stupid. But what some of you may not realise is that some of these teens and children are actually very worried and genuinely curious and serious in their questions. They need you to tell them the right thing. They probably can't go to the adults in their surroundings and now you want to shut them out too.

I'm 16, and i'm glad that there are adults on this site to answer my questions. Honestly, i'd rather have older persons with experience answer my quesrtions rather than persons my own age or younger. It's good to get feedback from other teenagers but it's even better to hear it from an adult.

I don't. I feel that it is only a device for excluding people rather than protection. Putting an age category is not going to stop anything and if it does it will also hurt others along with it. If we have an age category that anyone can go in, we will have people who will go to age groups just for the intention of being a jerk. If we have areas that are only available to a that person's age group, we will have children that can actually help adults being locked out (some seem to suffer from ageism and believe that only adults are a good source of wisdom, which is not always true) and have adults locked out from helping kids with problems that they dealt with when they were kids. So in my mind it isn't a good idea.

Age discrimination takes a lot of subtle forms...this is just another one of these subtle forms.

How can anyone ever hope to "GROW' intellectually without the input of the older and "YES" younger members of society. To make a great 'STEW' you must have different ingredients with different flavors all mixed in. You are obviously very confused. Or maybe think you have ":the wisdom of the ages" and have no need for experience thoughts from others. Then again you may feel more comfortable with your peers giving you the "Rght answer's" for your behavioral code of conduct. Maybe you fear enlightenment from others who just 'don't understand you' and who question this 'code of conduct' you may be moving into.

Don't get me started!!! I feel like such an old f*** when I answer questions like this. But there was a time not so long ago when this site was really enjoyable. People really wanted to help each other and now it's like everyone is trying to one up each other and i think that the underage people bring the marginal people down. It's a known that people relate at the lowest common denominator. There were NEVER stupid Sex questions, or how do I get back at my MOM, DO YOU HATE YOUR DAD (caps on purpose, they don't understand etiquette)

Yes and no. I think it would be a good idea, I mean to protect teh youngers from the stuff teh olders put up here. On the other hand, but what's to stop people from lying about their ages? And old ppl giving youngers answers to their questions is kind of passing on the wisdom. But I do think older people such as teenagers, abuse the power of being able to post to the entire world, if that is what you mean.

Yes, but only a separate domain, like a license agreement for people 18 plus years that provide them access to all the topics here but in a separate part of the site that the younger ones cannot enter. I've had several of my questions, which I thought were appropriately delivered, deleted because they were too adult-oriented.

I think there is no age limit under question for this site. 8 to 80 can take part in it. But of course experience may make a person perfect for giving better answers.

I think that the age difference lets us recieve answers and answer questions that we normally wouldn't have. Different perception through the eyes of a child, besides, the thing about the internet is that it's anonymous. Yahoo Answers is a free service that you get with Yahoo, there would be no way of knowing who is who and how old they are.
