They may have fun trying, but as the bear is not a canine the coupling will bear (sic) no offspring.

For those that say two animals of different species cannot breed, I say they have, but they have to be much closer then a bear is to a dog.

Examples:
A mule is a cross between a horse and a donkey.

A liger is a cross between a lion and a tiger.

A ferrel cat is a cross between a house cat and a bobcat.

A ferrel hog is a cross between a domestic pig and a wild boar.

A beefalo is a cross between a cow and a buffalo.

Dogs have been successfully bred to both coyotes and wolves.

Horses have been successfully bred to zebras.

Genetics are all wrong, sorry! God, didn't make dogs to inter breed with other animals, It would be like breeding a cat to a cow, its just not there!

No, it won't work, bears and dogs are close relatives, but not that close. It won't work on the gene level. Spare the shepherd getting eaten by the bear please!
