His trainer said he had sore back problems but perhaps he just doesnt want to race anymore. I cannot seem to find much information about him or any upcoming races, etc.? Funny Cide won two gems of the Triple Crown and Jockey Gold Cup so why is he faltering now?

Funny Cide wins at Aqueduct

NEW YORK (AP) -- Funny Cide, the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, ended an eight-race losing streak with a victory Sunday in the $65,000 Kings Point Stakes at Aqueduct.

The 6-year-old chestnut gelding hadn't won since the 2004 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.

Ridden by Richard Migliore, Funny Cide beat Gold and Roses by three-quarters of a length. Funny Cide covered the 1 1-8 miles on a fast track in 1:50.47 and paid $3.20 and $2.10 in the four-horse field limited to those bred in New York.

Gold and Roses returned $2.60. Win With Beck was third followed by Delta Sea. There was no show betting.

Funny Cide, trained by Barclay Tagg, earned his ninth career win and $41,325 for the Sackatoga Stable.

It marked Funny Cide's first appearance in a restricted race since his 2-year-old season.

Funny Cide took charge early and opened a clear lead. Turning for home, Funny Cide started to fade as Win With Beck charged up the rail and Gold and Roses ranged up to his outside.

Migliore applied the whip, something Funny Cide resents.

"I turned my stick over and hit him before he was ready for it," Migliore said. "I kind of took him out of his game. My little bit of worry almost cost us. I should have been more confident."

Migliore gathered his horse and Funny Cide responded down the stretch on closing day at Aqueduct.

Funnycide has ZERO chance of being retired to stud. He's a gelding. The ability to breed was removed long ago.
Reasons for racing - he's getting older; there's new talent coming up. A 50 year old person often can't keep competitive with a 20 year old. Horses aren't machines that can crank out the same performance time after time. There's been a lot of good horses come up since he was at the top of his game.

I am glad you asked this question.

Barclay Tagg, the trainer, is completely out of his mind.

If you recall, Funny Cide is a gelding. He's tired. Enough already.

Retire him to the Kentucky Horse Park so everybody can see a Derby Champion.

Arriving in "school buses" for the big races is a thing of the past.

Let him enjoy the rest of his life, in peace!

He might be retired. Sometimes when horses win huge races like in the triple crown, the owners decide to quit while theyre ahead. He might be at a stud farm now and being used for breeding purposes.
