It is usually an expensive procedure because unless a specialist (taxidermist) does it, the results can be really weird. I work in a Museum where furs, skeletons and entire animals are routinely prepared, and I know that it's not cheap, and there are few taxidermists.
I looked up some that live close to your area, I hope it helps (there was a Taxidermy Convention there in 2004!):

People do this, so it's not weird...although expensive. A few years back, on the SALLY JESSE RAFAEL show, the topic was people who loved their pets. A woman was on stage with her cat in her lap, talking about how she was a salesperson and even bought her cat camper trailer that she hooked behind her car, so she could take the cat on her travels. The cat was sleeping on her lap, all curled up...or so I thought. As it turned out, she did have her cat stuffed (I think she said it was freeze dried, if that is possible). Also there was a program about mummification. People make mummies out of their pets. Quite expensive. I see nothing wrong with it, if you decide to do so. Personally, my dead animals are buried in their own special place.
And to the person who answered and said to throw it in the garbage because it was free...apparently an animal's life and the joy they can give us doesn't mean very much to you. Are you going to bury your relatives in the same way? A freakin' garbage can? I hope your attitude isn't contagious.

Have interaction with one self and believe. There is no need for any Guru or 'Maha Guru. Learning some thing is one thing where one may teach or coach but for religious and spiritual thing development no guru is needed. Gurus as a class are Mahagurus and purely business men they do not have any quality of sacrifice and devotion . All are moneyed and earns lot for them self's. Don't involve your self. Read Geeta and will find that you are on right path. See Ch.II -47-50. You will learn much that what the so called gurus can tough. Don't involve your self in such religious ,orthodoxies and rituals. You will be robbed of your money.

My mom had a bunny stuffed about 20 years ago at a local taxidermist in Drayton Plains, Michigan. Then it was over $100.00, so I am sure the prices have considerably risen. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do, and I am so sorry for your loss.

My sister did a few years ago. You go to a taxidermist. It was just too freaky for me. The expression of the animal is never quite right, and you end up with something that looks like it came out of Pet Sematary!

any taxidermist will do this for ya, but it does cost alot of money, I mean alot. my uncle does it here in cincinnati, and for a small dog costs close to 900.00. by the way do not have your animals cremated, i had worked at a pet cemetary and having an animal cremated, smells EXACTLY like burger king. I wont eat burger king now because of it.

Well-i would let your pet rest in peace-let him go to rainbow bridge to play a frolic and be free and then one special day you two will be reunited!I know its hard but some-things you have to let go....and don't think of it as throwing him away! When my beloved dog goes im going to get him cremated and put some of his ashes into a special locket-so he will always be with me!
http://www.rainboebridge.com -and just so you don't say i didn't warn you-the poem may bring tears to your eyes!

no- thats way too weird.. my mom had our dog cremated and the urn she put the ashes in was weird to me too.. I think burying them in the backyard and planting flowers around it is the way to go... you can still go visit them if you feel the need, but you dont have to look at them all the time. it would be too sad...

That is SO creepy!!! Just take a lot of pictures, give the animal the respect you give a person and lay it rest! MUST IT SERVE YOUR NEEDS FOREVER?

It is almost $3,000 to stuff a cat. It's free to toss it in the garbage. Save your dough.
