few things are for ever.
as others have suggested this is done in stages.

for the fleas in the house you need to use the fumigators at least 2 or 3 times but a couple weeks apart the reason is the 1st time is for the adults and the 2nd is for the eggs.

if the fleas are from a pet-

you will need to give your pet a bath in FLEA soap AND keep VIGILIANT with some sort of flea control device. frontline or advantix. winter is not so bad but summer is awful.

and think about this 'if' you are suffering think about how miserable your pet must be!!!

the flea problem is a TWO fold thing- if you get them out of your house but not off your pet - you will track the fleas back from your pet to the house. and the other way around. so you need to stay on top of both. jessica

you need to get it fumigated. You can try those self fumigation canisters, they do work fairly well, but follow the directions closely and be prepared to stay out of the house for 8 hours. While that's being done, get the animal or animals to the groomer for de-flea treatment so they don't return. In the future, use a de flea product from a vet. It's worth the money.

with a powder called borax you take it and spread it all through the home and then you need to vauccm and make sure you throw the bag out then spread it again and leave it on for 24 hours then vaccum again then one more time you should be flea free. Also, put the borax on any floor first cause they jump to tile etc flooring
You can walk on the stuff and it is not harmful to dogs cats etc. I used it more then 10 years ago when I had a stray dog that had fleas and IT WORKED

Good Luck
Borax alone does not work, been there done that.
I had this problem 4 years ago, it was a nightmare.
My cat got fleas (even though we used the vet prescribed drops) every year, but I never had fleas.
They were biting me and following me to work.
I bombed my house with 3 different types of bombs, targetting the adults and the larvae and the eggs.
I sprayed furniture and poweredered the rugs.
I shampooed my cat daily.
I even had homemade flea traps (a plate of water with a drop of dish detergent by a night-light, or tv)

Then I stopped letting my cat in the house, only letting him in the garage or fenced backyard (which resulted in him running away and never returning). 6 months, SIX later, the fleas finally left (after winter).

I would suggest having a professional WITH A GUARANTEE handle it for you if your is as bad as mine was 4 years ago.

Good Luck!!!

My gramma used to get fleas when relatives would come over and bring their dirty dogs.

After the dogs left she would vaccum everything, rugs, couches, anything that has material on it that fleas can hide in.

Then she'd use a flea killer on everything she vaccumed (to make sure any eggs are dead) I hear Raid is really good.

Make sure your pet has a flea bath, maybe take it to a professional to get it done right and buy a flea collar. You should change the collar every 4-6 months.
