No, it isn't expected, and it doesn't necessarily feel any better. It is a huge psychological turn on though. If this is important to you, you can get better at it. Try this: Open your mouth as wide as you can without it hurting your jaw. Then stick your finger in your mouth further and further until you feel the slightest gagging sensation, and just hold it there.
