I think alot of parents are teaching their kids at home because they want to control what is being taught to their kids. I am one of those parents. They are teaching kids therorys instead of facts. I teach my kids facts about life.

Parents are there to teach and guide the kids. Sometimes the child does as much as possible on their own, much as in real life after school, with parental supervision and help when they get stuck. There are many options when teaching at home, and not everything is done by the parents. Some parents will ask a friend or neighbor who is in a particular field to tutor the child in a particular subject.

Mostly schooling in the home is done by the parents. Only rich people can afford to hire a personal tutor, and unless both parents make lots of money, it is usually the parent whose income is the smallest who gives up their away-from-home job to teach the children. Sometimes the teaching parent works part-time or works from home, because home school takes time.

Home schooling is legal everywhere in the USA, but the laws are different in each state. Go to the following website which promotes legal, responsible homeschooling for more info on the laws in your state:

While it is true that it is mostly parents, many kids learn in a group with other families - so it is a few parents. Many parents follow a pre-made curiculum from a charter or on-line school (some don't, but many do), Tutors can often be hired by the group to make it more affordable and the tutor can do all the kids together.

I guess what I am trying to say is that homeschooled kids are taught by a wide variety of different people - just like adults.

Most homeschooler teach their own kids. An option that is becoming more popular among the well-to-do is to hire private tutors for your kids. I have placed my older son in a co-op class for things I didn't know (and didn't really want to take the time to learn well enough to teach). But generally, it's the parents who teach.

I teach my son at home. You can do it yourself or have someone come in and do it. It is very rewarding to do it on your own.
