I beleive in God. I do beleive in Jesus, too. However, I have many questions about the Bible, as it is inconsistent in many places and often is misleading and confusing. So, I do not read the bible much at all. But, I pray, and trust in God. God has answered nearly every prayer I have ever prayed, and he is with me all the time. I feel joy all around me. So, how am I going to hell because I don't agree with some points of the bible? That's what the die hard christians say. I feel a mystical/spiritual connection with God that I cannot explain. Why do you need the bible, or any book, for that matter, to validate your faith and your love of God?

If Christians are damning you to hell for not agreeing with things in the Bible then they should be damning themselves. I dont know the exact verse, but Jesus does say that Final Judgment is reserved for only the Father, it is not for man to decide who will go to heave and who will go to hell.

"Fundamentalism" or belief in the absolute inerrancy of the bible as a literal document is a relatively recent "invention" with its roots in 1920s America among certain Christians who were highly suspicious of education. They also took as a basic tenet of their beliefs the "depravity of man" as a default condition. Since Christians the world over (& I am not a Christian, just an observer) had been using the bible for guidance without stressing its absolute inerrancy for almost 2000 years, one can only assume the Fundamentalists think all these "Christians" (including Jesus' contemporaries) are going to Hell in a handbasket!

If you are a nice person who respects others and lives a good, kind life & appreciates what a remarkable place the Universe is, I have a hard time believing that if there is a God he's going to punish you for that, don't you?

To believe the bible literally is to believe that pi=3 (see 1 Kings 7) and that the handicapped can't go to heaven ( see Lev.21:17-23).
Does that sound like the Jesus you were taught about growing up?

The Bible is God's Word, and it is very important that you read it. However, if you feel like it is hard to understand, I would recommend going to your pastor with any of you areas of confusion. But know this: there is no error in the Bible, the only error is in the ones reading it, like you and me. Yes, I agree, at first glance, some points seem hard to understand, and even contradictory. But with a little research and outside help and references, it all comes together in such an amazing way! Sometimes that Bible is hard to understand, but anything you are not sure about can be explained by your pastor. It is essential for Christians to read the Bible. Otherwise, one wouldn't know exactly what he or she is putting their faith and trust in. As for not agreeing with the Bible, that's exactly what the founder of, say, the Jehovah Witnesses (the Watchtower org.), did. Charles Russel didn't like and/or agree with certain essential points of the Bible, and look what that has today become! Over 5 million followers have been deceived. Again, the Bible is God's Word, and if you don't agree with that, you are disagreeing with God Himself. It all makes sense with a little research. If you have any questions, there is a site that a church called has set up, and this link will take you to a place where you can ask any question. http://lineonline.net/ask.html
I really hope that this helps, God bless!

I don't think that you are going to hell because you do not read the Bible. If you read the Bible, you will notice that Jesus Himself places faith above all. Many people are saved by faith in the New Testament, and these people in the New Testament obviously had not read the Bible either.

Oh dear,

Why ask a question you answer yourself?

You walk with God and he should punish you because you did not read the manual? The bible is a collection of books not just one. The books are about different ages, different people and different circumstances. Besides most christians have never read the bible. I mean the whole thing. Let alone undersood whats in it. It needs a lot of explanation and lets face it there are a lot contradicting explanations around.

Trust your hart.

I don't think you are going to hell. A person's relationship with God is their own business. I haven't found any inconsistencies in the Bible.

Only certain fundamentalist Christian groups take everything the Bible says literally. Most Christian groups are much more open-minded. I was raised Catholic and have chosen to be an Episcopalian as an adult. I consider this group to be the "thinking" church. They don't tell you what to believe.

Dont worry about the "Book" or the Bible. Its not nessesary to understand it all. they are just life lessons passed along for future use. I can say I belive, and dont need to be able to quote scripture to proove it. Relax.
