I am having trouble hooking a fish. I can feel them biting but
I can't get them to stay on the hook. Any suggestions?

Patience is a virtue. You have to make sure they have taken the bait. If you are using a bobber or a float.. wait until they take it all the way under the water. If you are relying on line pull... when they run with it... set the hook. Either way, setting the hook is similar.... sharply pull the end of the rod up from about the 3 o'clock position straight up to about the 12 o'clock position.
Practice makes perfect.

Make sure that the hook is the right size for the fish. It might be too big or too small. You could also try getting to barbed hooks. They are much sharper and are made so that once you set the hook, it will dig in deeper and stay in the fish's mouth. You could also try using topwater lures to see when the fish has it completely in his mouth.

Go to the grocery store, buy a dead fish and take it with you next time you go fishing. Hook it to the end of your line and pretend you caught it. The bigger the better. At least you know you will be able to eat it when you reel it in.

Try using a smaller hook and make sure it is sharp.
