In answering another question I found this website - maybe they have some pointers for you or someone you can talk to - http://www.foodaddicts.org/index.html

Join Weight Watchers. They will give you some strategies to avoid binging. You can eat as much of some foods as you want without feeling guilty: celery sticks, carrot sticks, sliced apples, orange wedges, sugar free popsicles or sorbet. You can also chew sugarfree gum and drink water. Sometimes you are actually thirsty when you think you're hungry.
#1 rule: Don't buy and bring junk into the house in the first place. If it's not there, you can't eat it.

You may want to look at Weight Watchers, but if you have an addiction, one that you fill is life threatening, check out overeaters anonymous at: http://www.oa.org/index.htm. It is free and anonymous. If you live in a populated area, they are bound to have a support group near you.

Start Smoking. Just kidding, but I have had this problem for the last few years, I do smoke though and I can distract myself alot w/ that. I've heard about medication that reduces the want to do it. I am going to talk to my doc about it. Good luck.

Get up and do something: clean, dance in the living room, and yes, even jog in place to some music. Or go window shopping, go to Wal-Mart or the Mall.

Pick up a hobby, or do something to take your mind off food.
