Pick one that is FREE and open source!
Pick Anti-Vir
or Advast!!!
Spywear: love Spybot or even Adwear
Other: oh and don't forget registry cleaner!
:)
Norten is EVIL, and it eats up system resources, it's just a brand name now the normal users pick c0z it once HAD a good reputation but now it bites and doesn't even always do it's job. And then they have the nerv to charge each year for it!
Yes ZA is an all in one, so it kicks but, but it doesn't do it 100% (so I just use ZA as a kick @ss firewall, nothing more) BUT Zone Alarm is very VERY user freindly (great for Newbies!)

Well here's a good rundown of the programs that offer anti-virus protection..
- Norton Anti-virus is great for people running multiple PCs and want the added features like disk defragment, firewall capability, and/or internet virus protection. The one thing that Norton is notable for is it's a resource hog. Even on high-end systems this baby consumes memory like toilet paper. Also, it's one of the more expensive programs out there retailing between $40 for the standard edition and $70 for the Systemworks Package.
- McAfee Virus Protection is another one that rivals Norton but has a falling out in the last couple of years due to incompatibility and coding problems...not really the best thing out there though.
- AVG software is by far the most comprehensive virus protection software to date because of it's low system resources and it's basically free to use and is downloadable from a variety of sources. Their's no subscription fees when you need to update virus definitions that NAV has, and it does the job.
Personally I use a collection of low resource software that can be found on CNET's www.download.com website. Infact they dedicated a whole section on PC Protection from Hacks and viruses, aptly named "The PC Starter Kit". It's a great resource for protecting your computer and I highly recommend it..
Here's the direct link for this section:

With all these in mind, my computer has been virus-free for many months with these programs, and I'm a download freak so, it helps.

I've used 5 or 6 different vendors over the years and at this point like Zone Alarm Security Suite the best - includes firewall, anti-virus, mail protection, spyware protection, etc. Works well, the update mechanism is relatively unobtrusive, and is well integrated. Had it for a couple of years on my old computer and bought it again when I went to a new computer and O/S. Yes, I could have just re-installed my old copy but I wanted to start fresh with the latest and greatest - and with the install CD to support it.

Theres a realy reliable software said as trend Micro, it detects just about some thing. Cant undergo in thoughts how a lot i paid for it, even though it replaced into low-cost. the draw back is it type of feels to be very very severe on what it thinks is a scourge and it blocks alot of issues which arent viruses. merely providing you with some thing to seem into. also Norton has were given particularly undesirable lately its no longer in the right Antivirus classes anymore.

I suggest kaspersky Ineternet security. I scanned my pc with norton, Mcaffe ,AVG, Avast and Nod32. All of em found like 5-8 viruses but when i installed kapersky it found 79 viruses trojens and adwares from there. Thats the best software i have ever seen.

Norton SystemWorks is really good, it's about 50 or 60 euros/dollars but it's really efficient. you might also need a firewall, try Sygate Firewall, you can get it free on internet... if you have both Norton and Sygate on your computer you'll have no problems!
